What are you going to hunt after deer season?

Deer season is winding down across the country. What do you have your sights on next?

Me: hogs, small game, spring bear.

I will be staring into a 2'x2' hole in the ice with a spear in my hand trying to deke a big pike in close.

And perhaps some 'yote hunting if we ever get some snow.

Coyotes, bobcats and maybe some hogs.

I will be hunting squirrels, crows and various varmits that frequent the pecan orchard behind our house. Squirrels are considered pest in our little town and you are allowed to hunt them all year. Mostly I will tatget practice with different reloads. I'm working on one of my blackhawks in 41 mag, I'm drilling and tapping for a weigand base, I should have it ready in a few days. Still sore from the heart procedure I had last week, but I should be good to go in about a week. Have a great new year. Lonnie

Predators, which will include coyote,fox and bobcat. Using a bait set up. Many hunters will take a five gallon pail or food bucket and fill it one third of the way with meat scraps and bones. Then fill it with water and allow it to freeze. The meat cycle is then set out with a trail camera and you then pick the best time to hunt.

Hogs, hogs, hogs, and some more hogs.....maybe an exotic goat of some kind shot behind a fence -- hey I want one for my wall!

Hopefully I will be hunting hogs in Texas in the Mar. - April time frame.

Plan on killing more targets this year.

Squirrel and rabbits mostly but i till try to get a few hogs in before summer sets in.

LOL I hope to do the same! ice drinking season is upon us. oops meant fishing lol.

Would love to go back to Oklahoma and hunt hogs or maybe do a Javelina hunt somewhere, but my wallet is a little empty at the time... I hate college lol

pigs and coyotes for me!

My son and I are going squirrel hunting tomorrow. I'm gonna use my Ruger Single Six topped with a Leupold 4x on them. Never shot a squirrel with it yet but I'm gonna give it a try.

I'm supposed to chase coyotes with 430rupe next month and if I have anytime after that to hunt it will be for coyotes and cougars until spring bear season.

Small game, with my Buckmark, single six"s and my contender with a 22lr barrel and a 410 barrel, good luck to all.

Coyotes, Bobcats and Foxes oh my, then woodchucks after they wake up.

As for me......hoping to do some archery hunting for deer if the weather cooperates. Spent yesterday stomping around for grouse and bunnies....my friend got a few shots, I held off since they were not quality chances. Also going to hit some pheasant areas next week.

I broke in my new 454 Casull on an 8 pt. during the rifle season. I'll try to post a picture after I get the skull cleaned up. I'm already looking for some hogs, but no luck yet. Going to keep trying.

Small game and varmints. A lot of steel targets and clays.

Other than handgunning, ducks are on the docket until late January, followed by turkeys in the Spring.

Most likely a little varmint hunting.

COYOTES!

I shot this coyote with my T/C .223 and "fur load" (50 gr. Hornady SX) this morning from a bait pile. A nice tiny .223 hole in and no exit.

Hogs and yotes for me.

Sorry to hear that, I know your not alone on the site or in general but hopefully things will eventually turn around. Good luck in your efforts as that is more important than any critter.

Hogs, of course, and predators.

Hog hunt in March. Stretching the moolah a bit for me at this time but an early bout with cabin fever made me go for it.

We have roughly 35 hunters on the list for the hunt this year.

Good hunting, good friends, good food. This will be year number 4 or 5, I think, for us and the fun part is that most of us met each other through another gun/ hunting website.

We come from various backgrounds and from all over the country.

One guy drives up from Texas just to cook for us at our nightly party/liar feast.

Exotics and Hogs, about the same as deer season. Too many of both,

Squirrel, of course, till end of February. Turkey, come middle of march, and I'm probably going on a pheasant hunt sometime or another.

Heading out tomorrow morning for a 3 day Texas hunt.
My .44mag SBHH and RH will accompany me.

I'm gonna shoot some of these darn coyotes reaking havoc on our deer heard down here in Dixie...

When I ever get my 475/350 Mag barrel, I'm going to test some 400 gr. RN bullets on what I've been told is around an 800 pound feral boar. Let's see what a 475 set up in a single shot can do, I bet it's gonna kick like a MULE!

Got a couple of jackrabbits with the 1911 so far. Might try it on a coyote if they come in close enough.

Hopefully, some squirrel hunting with my G-2 22lr match barrel. Once the new year starts I seem to get tied up with shooting archery.

For 5 or 6 years we've had high numbers of cottontails. The last 2 years I can't hardly find a track.

Same goes with the coyotes. When the wolves got thick the numbers crashed. They started to come back a couple of years ago and the government trappers must have got some of the Obam money (stimulus)and they have hired and are doing ALOT more flying. Which equals no coyotes.

With out cottontail and coyotes I am sooooooo bummed!

I'll have to wait till it warms up some and go for PD, picket pins, rock chucks, spring bear, and spring turkey!

Spring turkey is next on my list.

rabbits will also run on a cycle which is roughly 10yrs +/- a year or two where there populations grow past max capacity and disease takes them down to nothing and then they gradually come back up and it normally takes 5 or 6 years before you see decent numbers again. I've personally seen this phenomenon with cottontails, snowshoes, and jackrabbits. I'm sure predation has an impact on what's left and how fast they come back.

Am putting together another black bear hunt for across the bay out of Homer, Alaska. Probably won't get to go 'till the 3rd week of May. Hopefully all of the white stuff and hard water will be gone by then.

I've got one more chance to chase a deer, and then it's on to hogs and maybe an exotic for me.
