How many of you guys use scopes on your hunting revolvers?

I have one with a scope, all others wear various red dots. Irons on one.

More scoped than unscoped hunting revolvers...Have a reflex red dot sight on one short barrel, and the balance have irons.

Re: scopes for hunting - 01/07/2012 4:23 AM

I have one scoped revolver at the moment and several with irons. I prefer the traditional look but my eyes aren't what they used to be so I own several scopes and red dots I just haven't installed them yet. I think I'm still in denial about my eyes.

Some with, some without.

My only revolver is scoped, but I wouldn't call it a hunting revolver as it has not been hunted with yet.

I have gotten away from using scopes on my revolvers, but have red dots on a couple of them for hunting in poor light.

I scope majority of my hunting handguns.

My Ruger Super Redhawk wears a Bushnell 2-6x scope. I just picked up a Super Blackhawk that I will use without a scope.

I have one big bore revolver and some small bore hunting handguns. My small bore stuff wear irons and my one big bore has a reflex sight. When I had my contenders they all had scopes.

Iron sights all the way. If I want a scope, I'll grab my rifle.

I see great at distance, it's the up-close part that's difficult -- need reading glasses to see the sights....LOL!

Does recoil compress our arms? Is this what is happening?

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/02/2012 3:48 AM

Hello while on the subject of handgun scopes, I would like to start handgun hunting and will probably be getting a ruger super blackhawk hunter to use next hunting season. I would like to get a scope for it and was thinking about getting the Bushnell elite handgun scope and wanted some info on this scope. If anybody has this scope, what is your take and experience with it...? Thanks for reading and any info you can offer is greatly appreciated....

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/02/2012 5:31 AM

I have a 2-6x Trophy on my SRH and its great. I've had it for quite a few years. I believe the Elite came several years after the Trophy. I can't imagine it being a bad scope, but I have no personal knowledge for the Elite.

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/02/2012 12:16 PM

I have 8 of the Bushnell 3200 Elites in service on single shot handguns of various calibers, up through .375 JDJ. They have given me good service, with no problems, and I like them. I don't have any on revolvers, because I prefer smaller size scopes in that application: Leupold 2X and 4X and Ultra dots.

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/02/2012 3:09 PM

I agree with 500WE. The Bushnell Elite is my choice in a variable handgun scope. I have several and have had no problems. Otherwise, I usually opt for the 4X Leupold.

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/02/2012 5:46 PM

Thank you for your replies, I think I will get the Bushnell elite and give it a try...

There are red dots and green dots so that doesn't leave much. You should still see a dot though, no? Even a black dot is an aiming point, one of my favorite rifle scopes was a Weaver 1x with just a dot for the reticle.

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/03/2012 4:32 AM

I wish that the Bushnell Elite had the option of a dot reticle, say 1/4 minute or so. That would make it the perfect scope for me.

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/03/2012 6:27 AM

I believe you can have Leupold put a dot in the VXIII 2.5-8, more money but more scope although I'm using the Elites now. I still prefer irons but presbyopia gets us all eventually

I am also color blind but you will still see the sight and be able to shoot. I can see a red and green sight, however I fail the color discrimination test with numbers.

Re: scopes for hunting - 02/04/2012 1:48 AM

BE CARFULL!!

My Dad is red and green color blind and all the reds in the leaves might make the dot disappear. I am not saying it will, but get your hands on one at your favorite sporting goods store and find out!!!!!!!!!!
