It'll be a SST Encore with a 15" .223.....but - 02/13/2005 2:07 PM

Well it's in the works, I'll be getting my Encore shortly. For a varmint like a ground hog or even a turkey, with a scope on the 15" .223 barrel how far out is it possible to make an accurate shot? Some people I've talked to say only 100 yards but others have said upwards of 200 + yards (as long as you have a bipod). So whadda ya think?

I think that once you are proficient with the rig that 200+ yard shots are not out of the question. My fartherest shot so far with my 223 Contender is 247 yds on a chuck. Dropped him on the spot. The limiting factor with long range pistols has always been the scope. Make sure you get good optics like the Burris 3-12x. Good luck.

With good loads, lots of practice and of course, a Burris 3-12x32 BP you'll be plucking chucks at 300+ yards with ease. How do I know that...cuz I do it all the time with my Contender in .222 Remington!

You will be dropping chucks well past 200 yards with the 223, a good load and good optics. I'm reaching out close to 200 yards with a 221 and a 10" barrel.
