And how do you want to hunt?

EG, I hunt with a TC and carry a revolver on my belt.

I have a bandito bandolier holster. It holds my Ruger Bisley 45 hunter scoped. It holds 10 extra rounds on it and is a very handy sturdy holster.

I carry a Contender or a Encore in a bandolier chest holster and a revolver in a shoulder holster, welcome, neighbor.

Simple Rugged Pancake holsters using Rob's Chesty Puller harness, but I do like the looks of Diamond Leather Guides Choice harness.

I have a hodge podge of different holsters. I have an old and cheap Uncle Mike's shoulder holster that fits the biggest of my revolvers with an optic. I recently got a holster from Wild Guns Leather Company -- an original Dirty Harry shoulder rig that's really comfortable. I have Galco belt holster, and one of my favorites is a custom shoulder rig that was made for a friend of mine by a saddlery shop.

I have also settled on a cheap vertical carry sholder holster for my 7.5 inch barrel revolver. I have a Galco Wheelgunner for my shorter 4 5/8 inch barrel revolver or I carry it in an old Bianchi Lawman. I like the versatility of the Wheelgunner but I have never gotten used to the hammer thong on that holster. My Bisley single six is a 6.5 inch and rides in a cheyenne style holster on a .22 cartridge belt.

Rob,

That gun will give you pretty much limitless choices. Hip, shoulder or chest. Or even on a pack. The bigger question would be where you hunt, stand or still hunting. Do you wear bino's, perhaps a bino chest system. Do you hunt with a pack that attaches to your waist? No pack at all? Do you have a concealed carry permit? Can the gun be covered by an over garment? Do you walk, ride a truck, an ATV or perhaps a horse? Will you be walking on reasonable trails, or perhaps be spending a lot of time crawling around, or scrambling over deadfall or rocky places?

My suggestion is to think through all of the the way you hunt, and where you hunt, then decide on a holster type. Then better suggestions could be made for brand or particular style. And while money is tight these days, it is not uncommon for those of us who do these things, to have a collection of quality holsters to adapt to changing hunting situations or locations.

With the 6 in. gun you have lots of choices as stated. Hip,shoulder, chest all have there places .Shoulder holsters protect the gun best but are sometimes slower and awkward to use with a pack, and with the longer barrels push up under your arm when you sit down.Chest holsters are great for the short barrels
and especially good for long barrels and put the gun in a reachable position .They also allow you to sit with a long barreled gun and not have it ride up. Bino's can interfere though. I ues a crossdraw for guns up to 5 1/2 inch, mostly because that is what I like and they work well for me. I make my own and set the cant or tilt where I like it. My 14in Contenders and Striker get a sling or an Uncle Mikes nylon holser strapped to my pack. There is always a short barrel on my belt anytime I am out and about, in the crossdraw or vertical behind my right hip position.

I have tried various holsters for my contender and was not happy with any. I have a TC holster and a leather shoulder holster that I saw Larry Weishun (spelling?) use on TV. I found a sling is the best thing. I have used my TC holster for my ruger super redhawk though when walking around scouting.

for my scoped revolvers I have used Bandelier holsters. I have a cheep nylon one that is ok, (velcro sucks) and just got a nice leather Wyoming Combo holster. Have yet to try it hunting, but it seems very nice thus far

If at all possible, I like to carry mine on my hip in a crossdraw holster.

If I'm using a Contender or an Encore, I use a Uncle Mikes Bandolier holster, or I simply pack it in my hand.
