Ruger Blackhawk

Ok decided not to buy the Inter Arms .44 but my local shop has 3 used Blackhawks on the shelf. One is like new ... papers and box never fired .. for $459. the next one is probably 85-90% pretty decent shape minor spots but not pitted 435 bucks. Last one is 75 percent ... small brown spots and some tiny pits/Packmayr grips $385. All are 44 mags.
do I buy a used Blackhawk .... ?
Should I look to find a Bisley hunter ... Asked the guy at the shop ... he clicked around and said ... can't find it ...maybe not making it anymore.....
Money is kind of an object here to a point ... I am not wanting to buy another one to soon so I want the best gun for the price. This will be my hunting gun for deer .

Is the Bisley hunter worth the extra money if I can find one...
Is the Super black hawk never fired worth the money and difference in price for the Bisley hunter model.

Not a bad price for a new Super. The difference is all in the handle. You might love the SBH handle. I prefer the Bisley. You can get a Weigand scope base for around $40, but the beauty of the Hunter models is the integral scope mounting. You can remove or attach the scope at will. I can't see irons that well so that point is moot to me. You can get your money out of the new Super if you don't like it. I think it's worth a try.

Look on GunBroker, BIsley Hunters appear regularly.

If you really prefer the Bisley,I would search til you find one because after you buy the Super you keep telling yourself you should have waited for the Bisley-john

on the other hand.... i like the blackhawk and dont care for the bisley at all. nothing like being the 1st owner of a hunting gun. if a gun has sm pits what else did the owner not take care of. yet 80 bucks will buy a bit of ammo. not much help am i?

The bore, in fact the last 1" and the forcing cone, the first 1/4" are the most important in revolvers. If the bore in the $385 gun w/ Pachs is "clean" ( no pits ) forcing cone good ( remove the cylinder and inspect with a light, I would go for the cheaper gun. You may want the Pachs ( depends on hand size and it keeps the Dragoon style trigger guard from biting ). Also insure the cylinder locks up tight when cocking the revolver. I've purchased many guns that didn't look the greatest on the outside; however, the bores and actions were excellent and essentially fired only minimally. Also, talk to the shop owner and see if he / she will cut you some slack on exchanging it for one of the other ones if you are unhappy. Like cars, new is nice to have; but, the money you save can go to ammo. No matter what gun you purchase, you need top shoot it a bunch, all positions, angles, lighting conditions before hunting with it. My 2 cents.

Something to take into consideration is wether you plan to scope the handgun. While it can be done with the Blackhawk, you might be better served with something that already is scope/ring ready. With that said, my Blackhawk in 41 Mag shoots amazingly tight groups for a "field grade" handgun.

Thanks for the info guys .... To be honest I havent shot a .44 sbh.... let alone the Bisley model. I have shot the sbh in .357..... a taurus tracker in .44 and years ago i shot a .41 in redhawk. I also shot a colt anaconda once .....44 as I recall .This will be my first revolver.I dont have anything to compare too. I am kind of out here on my own because the lack of local contacts in the handgun hunting community.I looked at a sbh hunter on sunday used in 95% condition with 2x leupold scope for $799 ... way to high in my opinion for a used gun .

At $459 you will be able to turn that NIB SBH around if you don't like it. I think its worth a try.
