Customized Grips

Customized Grips - 03/17/2013 6:09 PM

This is the third revolver (my FA 83 .454) that I have inlaid an elk ivory into the grip. On this one I only did the left grip; I will shoot it before I decide if I want to do the other side.

On the other two revolvers I did both sides.

I find that the ivory not only looks neat but gives my thumb a "memory spot" and helps ensure the same grip every time.

Thank you, Mark.

James, they are molded grips from Tombstone Grips that I fit and sanded and painted.

Gregg,

They look great. Fitting grips with round medallians is tedious enough, much less an odd shape.

Not sure if FA still does this, but I was able to order a set of micarta grips from them that were semi-fit. By semi I mean that they came in/on a wooden frame like holder. I was able to fit the micartas myself, and I was able to use the frame/holder as a guide to send out to a guy for real ivory. I told him to cut the ivory to fit the frame. You still have to drill for the frame boss stud, but it is a way to do it yourself without having to start with two square slabs ;^)
