Is there any way other than UPS overnight to ship a pistol? Using that method would cost almost as much as the little gun is worth. Also, does it have to go FROM a FFL to an FFL, or can I ship it to the FFL? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It must go to FFL in the state where purchaser is. I ship by USPS without any hassel and much less cost. Reciently they have been saying handguns have to go Priority but still much less than UPS overnight. Take a copy of the FFL to the Post office when you go.Most FFL's will handle for a small fee. Handguns MUST go FFL to FFL. My FFL holder charges me $20 for that service and he packages the gun for me also.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about this. I have sold several guns through the internet and from what I am told is that they can not go via the USPS, but can go regular UPS. If you are selling it to someone, you can mail it directly to a FFL holder, you do not need to have it go from your FFL holder to the buyers FFL holder.

This may be true in your state and the states you have shipped guns to. BUT in NY for me to receive a gun and a handgun in particular it MUST come from an FFL to an FFL.

Anyway, weather you can or can't ship person to FFL. Every gun I sell I ship from my FFL to thiers, that way I know everything is on the up and up. I get along good with my gun shop owner enough he only charges me the actual shipping, and I let him worry about what the right way to ship it is.

I'll throw in my limited understanding.
As I understand it, an FFL holder can ship Priority Mail(USPS) to another FFL, while I as an individual can ship to an FFL, but can not do it thru the USPS & must use Fed Ex, or UPS overnight. My FFL charges me $10.00 + actual Priority Mail cost to box & ship. That usually comes out to $20-$25 total. Fed Ex usually runs me close to $50.

(B8) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm through the U. S.
Postal Service? [Back]

A nonlicensee may mail a shotgun or rifle to a resident of
his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. Handguns
are not mailable. A common or contract carrier must be used
to ship a handgun. A nonlicensee may not transfer any
firearm to a nonlicensed resident of another state. The
Postal Service recommends that longguns be sent by
registered mail and that no marking of any kind which would
indicate the nature of the contents be placed on the outside
of any parcel containing firearms.

(B9) May a nonlicensee ship a firearm by carrier? [Back]

A nonlicensee may ship a firearm by carrier to a resident of
his or her own state or to a licensee in any state. A common
or contract carrier must be
used to ship a handgun. In addition, Federal law requires
that the carrier be notified that the shipment contains a
firearm and prohibits common or contract
carriers from requiring or causing any label to be placed on
