Anyone interested in a Wichata MK-40 in .375x.284? - 10/22/2005 10:25 PM

Local shop has one with a 14.5" barrel with muzzle brake, 2x silver finish Leupold & RCBS Dies for $525. Looks to be nice overall.
Stock is grey with some handpaited leaves(?).
Does anyone have ballistics on this cartridge?
If anyone is interested in the gun I can give you the shops # & if you are serious I'll ba glad to take photos for you, but please don't ask me to take the time & drive down & do it just because you wonder what a Wichita looks like ;-)

I ran this wildcat cartridge through my internal balistics program. I took the 284 Win and necked it up to .375 and kept the standard shoulder. Here's what I came up with using a 14.5" barrel.

At 90% case capacity using IMR 3031 and a 260gr bullet, it should yield 1830 FPS at 40K cup.

At 100% case capacity using same powder and bullet, it should yield 2030 FPS at 49K cup.

Interesting. The MK-40 is a nice bolt gun, with a scope and break and in good shape this is a bargain for someone.

Wichita has a picture of the MK 40 on their website.

Thanks for the info Osok.
Sounds just a bit off of the .375 JDJ.

Hey guys been a while. I have a friend who had such a beast on the XP100 platfom. Spectacular chambering. 270grain Bullets at 2350fps. 300 grain bullets at about 2100. It is an absolute pleasure to shoot. In fact is recoils way less than my contender in 8mmJDJ.

Recently he rechambered it. Necked up the 300 Win short mag case to 375. It has given about 100fps with the 270 grain bullets (2450fps) and the 300 grain bullets clock 2250fps.
