45 super conversion

So I modified my 1911 to handle 45 super and was wondering what bullets you guys on here used for medium game and was also curious about the velocities and loads that were being used don't worry I won't blow myself up

Following this. I just bought a Glock 21SF to do the same thing. There is a lot of good data for a lot of calibers on handloads.com website. I haven't purchased a barrel, spring or dies yet so I haven't checked it out.

There is a lot of difference in the acp and super on the Taylor Knockout Scale. I think it'll be well worth the effort in the end.

By medium size game I am assuming deer and pronghorn? At super velocity the 230XTP works just fine. Quite a killer. If you are thinking about going after hogs the 255 Beartooth sized .451 will work well.

I did a Super conversion on my S&W 4506...I have used it on deer with a 200 gr hard cast swc at 1230 fps..10 grains of Power Pistol in a 5" barrel. Penetration is no problem and kills deer dead..which seems enough power to me! LOL!

The 185 grain XTP's are excellent in the Super

I would also consider the 200 grain XTP.
I would probably do some experimenting with all three. You have several considerations. Function, Expansion, and Accuracy come to mind. Working with all three, One of them may excel. I would lean more towards the 200 and 230 myself.

Another bullet that I had good luck with in the super is the Nosler 185. You're not going to get an exit. It will stop under the off side hide but destroys everything getting there.

Been a minute finally got a chance to work up some loads I only had a few 230 xtps and it was raining so no chrono data id guess 1,100 fps at 9.4 grains of power pistol and a 180 id guess around 1,400 fps at 11.3 grains power pistol from looking at velocities listed on the data no signs of pressure at all even with 30 year old acp brass it all checked out in my gun and dads gun point of impact was right where id want it but ill say both loads had a lot of jump and bang compared to what im used to and they almost had some recoil lol no bulged cases at all and from the look of the brass both Kimbers have really close to 100% support down to the case head there can't be much exposed web really threw the brass out but I don't plan on shooting full power loads through it most of the time and with the spring set up I have it didn't feel like the gun was getting beat up at all and it still runs our practice ammo just fine so... Now to kill a few squirrels with it for practice and then introduce it to bambi's dad thanks for the input guys even though I've been slow about this

Bushy I think you will find those loads you developed quite effective on squirrels! LOL! (deer too!)

I prefer eating squirrels not turning them into fireworks lol since it'll still function with 230 grain round noses at about 700 fps I think ill stick with those 😋 However im sure either hot load would put the smackdown on a deer im leaning towards the 230s though cause a 300 lb deer isn't impossible here by any means

Either of your loads will kill any whitetail that ever lived if you hit them in the heart/lung area...I use hard cast 200 grain SWC's at 1230 fps and I have never had a deer shot with one go over 30 yards...I would NOT shoot a hard quartering away shot using the super because I simply do not have a bullet that has enough sectional density and energy to penetrate a long way like a good heavy hard cast swc in a .44 mag but at any reasonable angle the Super will do the job.
