41 Mag and your favorite factory load for Deer? - 04/09/2019 12:22 PM

I just purchased my first 41 Magnum in a Ruger Blackhawk with a 6.5 inch barrel. Whats your favorite factory 41 mag loads for deer? Thanks in advance!

My #1 is the old Speer 200 gr. half jacket HP. Does awesome damage. No longer made, but if you look hard enough you can find some.
#2 Rem. 200 gr. HP. nice soft bullet that does decent damage to deer. The ones I tested in past that did not do so good were Speer Gold Dot and Horn. XTP. Both did less damage than my #1&2.
Keith 210 gr. SWCs are accurate and penetrate fantastic. Decent on deer if you do both shoulder blades.

Anyone have any experience or opinions on the Underwood .41 Magnum 210 gr, Nosler Jacketed Hollow Point load. They are publishing velocities of 1,560 fps with 1135 ft lbs. The majority off my shots will be 50 yards and less, I am still hunting my 100 acre cut-over.

I?m assuming no one is using Factory Ammo, or maybe nobody is using the old .41 Magnum for Deer?

Winchester 175gr SilverTips @1250fps on WhiteTail..

Hornady's new 190gr FTX @1610fps would certainly do the job..

But Remington's old Police Load is my favourite 41mag load on WhiteTail.

210gr soft swaged boolit @1000fps.. I ''KNOW'' these work:-)

I use the .41?s on deer and love ?em. I just can?t help with factory ammo suggestions - I hand-load everything.

I hand load my .41 ammo and never killed a deer with factory ammo in one. If I was going to buy some ammo for a hunt it would be the Federal loaded with the Swift A-frame.

lots more 41 mag ammo choices then. ex

Winchester Platinum Tip 240gr @1380fps

Federal Premium 250gr FP gc Cast Core @1250fps

I have killed a lot of deer with the 41 magnum but I don't remember ever using a factory load on one. The fast & light crowd really swears by the Sierra 170 gr bullet & some people have taken some big animals with that bullet. It has a good reputation.
I've taken somewhere between 35-40 deer with the 230 gr Keith cast bullet & it's done a great job. I cast all my bullets as soft as possible & still maintain accuracy. I don't think I've ever shot one twice.
I've also been using a 210 gr cast HP that is gas checked. I cast this bullet soft & it has a pretty big HP cavity. It's doing a great job of putting deer down fast!
I also have a 250 gr HP cast slug but haven't used it yet, this fall will be the first time for that bullet.
