100g Pyrodex pellets+Encore 209x50=?????? - 01/17/2006 6:09 PM

Just wondering if anyone knows the ft/lbs of recoil with 100g of Pyrodex pellets and a 250g sabot out of a 15" Encore 209x50 ML handgun?
Or something simular in recoil?
Thanks

i use that same load and recoil is quite mild, suprisingly. don't know the exact ft/lbs of recoil, but it seems to be somewhat less than the 30-06 with 150 grainers i use. but i don't really seem to notice recoil when shooting the encore...just muzzle rise. it's really not that bad at all. btw, you should expect to get about 1600 fps or so...definately more than a 44 with similar bullets, and less than the 454 casull. hope this helps.

Yes it does thank you.
Being new to Encores I have idea what to epect.
Not that it matters since I am fairly stout.(
Whcih stands for short and fat)
Still nice to know what to compare it to or expect.
Thanks again.

I'd be more than willing to bet you don't get a complete burn of 2 fifty grain pellets in a 15" barrel. I think you'll see a very wide velocity spread if you have the chance to chronograph your loads. As far as how many foot pounds of energy.....Give us an actual velocity of the bullet and we'll tell you. Without that it's strictly guess work as all ML barrels will produce different numbers.

When you get your gun up and running shoot a couple rounds at dusk or just after dark if the range near you allows that and I bet you will actually be able to see the tail end of the top pellet burinig outside the barrel. When you get your maunal from T/C if I remember correctly you'll see a warning in there about using pellets and the possibility of the unburnt pellet being a fire hazard in dry areas. I'm pretty sure that's where I saw that. I will try to locate the manual that came with my barrel. It's been filed away somewhere I just can't lay hand on it right now.

I still say if you want the most consistant load you'll have to go with loose powder.

Thanks Charlie,
I have a manual and factory cleaning tools coming from T/C. Free!

Anyways, my local range is mine so a night time discharge is possible. LOL
Nice to have your own 10.6 acres.
Not to mention the other 100 I own which I hunt.
(Sorry but I am proud and fortunate to have it)

Thanks for the warning too.
I'd hate to burn down my only hunting area.

I actually shot a single 50g pellet with a 250g T/C ShockWave sabot yesterday and was surprized at the recoil from just one pellet. Not bad by no means, just more then I thought it would be.
I can see that 60g or 70g would be a fair amount.

Thats what "sparked" this post.
Pun intended. LOL
Thanks for the replies fellas

i think shawn was talking about ft/lbs of RECOIL ENERGY not muzzle energy and that would be very subjective to each shooter. i have chrono'ed the pistol bbl and using 3 30 gr pellets and velocities ran about 70 fps slower on AVERAGE. so there may be some unburned powder, but there is also a velocity increase. per the t/c manual in front of me, you can use up to 110 gr. safely in the pistol.

I shot 80 gr of 777 out of my 209/45 in my contender barrel, it was not bad at all. I am not a fan of the pellets, to much money and I do not think the burn will be the same from shot to shot.

Another trick to see how much loose powder is unburnt, lay a sheet down in front off your barrel, it will show you what is not burnt

If the recoil is to bad for you let me know, I may have to take the barrel off your hands.

Don't have an Encore 209x50, but do have one for my Contender, (which is for sale in the "barrels" section by the way), and I use 2 50 gr. Pyrodex pellets and 300 gr. Oregon Trails .429 bullets in Hornady sabot's for an averaged 1378 fps for 10 shots over my chronograph. That equals the velocity and energy figures of a .454 Casull field load.

A .454 Casull!....My 10.5" .44mag can push a 300gr cast that fast easy. Heck my 7.5" .44mag Hunter can do near that.
