T/C Encore 30/06??

I'm getting a pretty good deal (so I think) for a New T/C Encore with a 15in 30/06 barrel with open sights for $425

Think I'm gonna get it.

But my question is, how do you guys like it in the 06 for deer and elk for being a handgun?
I wanna know your thoughts about it.

I loved my 15" '06 wish I still had it. I took a few deer with it all one shot kills and would drop them on the spot. My favorite load was 57grs of IMR 4350 with a Barnes 150gr XLC-BT. I took my first handgun Elk last year with my 16.5" 300 Win Mag (factory 26" heavy barrel cut down "with no muzzle brake")I also have a 15" 308 Win that is very accurate and is now my favorite barrel for the Encore.

I have an 06 barrel for my Encore. Only reason I got it was because I wanted the frame. Haven't shot more than 40 rounds through the thing. I prefer my 308 and 260. Oh well, at least I got a frame.

So hows the recoil on it? Anything like the 45-70 on a Super 14?

SureShot< I'd much rather shoot the 30-06 in a 15 inch Encore than my 45-70 Contender with porting anyday. For some reason, I can't get used to that 45-70 recoil. Sorry to disappoint you.

I borrowed a factroy 15" 30.06 barrel with no brake or porting last Sept. to try and I found the recoil and muzzle flip, shooting factory Rem. 150's and especially the 180's I also tried, to be quite punishing and no fun whatsoever.

By comparison I shoot 15 inchers in both .284 Win. and 45-70 (300JHP's) plus a 12 3/4" barrel in 7mm08 and I find them a lot more comfortable to shoot.

and so a 180 nosler balt-tip over max charge of IMR4350 will punch a big hole clean through both shoulders at 135yd+ on a big white-tail, and my 165 Nosler bal-tip or Sierra 165-168 boat tails over 48gr or 4064 is boring one-hole, sun 1/2 MOA all day long and it's flat too. a 350-300 yard chuck is no match. 1 big doe in the winter at 90yds was down before the muzzle came out of recoil. Inteeresting though, US M2Ball chroon's at only 2300fps from my 15" barrel.I will publish my chrono'd loads when I find them.
