Has anybody used this cartridge yet and if so what is the perfomance like on deer size game or even on varmints . I'm thinking of buying a new barrel.

We received several M4's in 6.8 back in 02 for testing. I liked it. We shot it out to 800m with scopes and most of them held around 1.5 moa. More than good enough for it's intended target. I don't remember much about the trajectory but it sure had one.
I wouldn't want a handgun for deer hunting in that cartridge though. There's just too many better cartridges out there.

kinda one of those cartridges that doesnt do anything special,or fill any voids.although the american public will buy anything...when the 260 remington came out it was the gun to be had until people discovered it was a clone of the 7mm-08!
ive noticed the trend of new numbers on the cases with no more performance than old numbers on old cases.
in the encore my choice for a standard chambering would be the 7mm-08,and the 7-30 waters or the 30-30 ai in the contender.

Jim, I agree with you on the 260 Rem. I couldn't wait to build one. I built a beautiful rifle and was planning on building an XP in 260. After finding out how finicky it is and that it doesn't come close to living up to the hype, I changed my mind on the XP. Bullet choice is what confuses me. Most available bullets are ridiculously long and heavy for this caliber. I do have a couple of really good loads for the rifle, though not as fast as advertised. One deer load for my wife and a coyote load. When the throat shows wear, I'll rebarrel to 7mm-08. Sorry about getting so far off topic. The 260 is a bit of a sore spot for me.

Coyote Guns offers a barrel with the shoulder bumped forward. They say you this will give you 100-150 fps more out of a 14" barrel.

In 260 or 6.8?

Got it. I just checked their sight. I've done that for a few belted mag rifles I've built so guys could get better headspace off the shoulder instead of the belt.
