Opinions on this new S&W Model 500...

So. What is your opinions? I was looking at the weight and it is several ounces more than my Ruger SRH in 454 Casull. Anyone here have experiences with this gun and possibly this new model? Thanks.

One of the biggest drawbacks with the 500's has been the weight. However, this one seems like it might be worth looking into. But you will have a good deal more recoil to contend with than with the other models. Nothing says you have to shoot full-house loads though.

I think I would rather have the redhawk just because of the bulk of the x-frame. The reason I sold both my 500 and 460 was the massive size of the guns, I carry custom blackhawks because they are compact and comfortable to carry on my belt where the x-frames either need a sling or a shoulder holster. The redhawk is even a little bigger than my personal preference but it's not near as bad as the 500 and the 454 will handle anything on the planet. I also guess it would depend on what your using it for, in the east where your primarily hunting tree stands or flat country it's not near as bad as packing a behemouth revolver up and down the mountains out here in the west.

I like the fact they made a little bit lighter, half-lug version, but then again, its not that much lighter than the 8 3/8" versions...I like the X frames, and own the 8 3/8" .500, its real sweet. all depends on what youre going to use it for...I think it makes a great gun if your hunting Bear with dogs, or hunting pig. Lots of gun for close encounters. but if youre going way out in the woods hunting something like deer or elk, Id be taking something a bit lighter, if I plan on packing it around for a few days, because it is heavy a gun and part of the reason I havent put optics on it and the other reason is because I dont think Ive met anybody whose had any 1 piece of glass last past 300 full house loads.
