Scopes ?

Scopes ? - 08/09/2004 3:22 AM

Looking for a scope to use not only in the timber were shots will be no more than 50 yards if that. But, I also want to be able to use it for shots out to 300 yards. Not sure what I'll put it on yet the Encore 30-06 Ackley Imp. or the XP-100 7mmBR.

How critical is the Burris 3x12 scope on 12x ? Do you find yourself not using the higher powers in the field ?

Tell me more about the Bushnell Elite 3200 2x6 or the Trophy 2x6. I looked at both some time ago and remember them having a clear and crisp veiw.

Last the 2x7 Burris had one that was a lemon But, was thinking of trying one again.

For serious handgunning work I only buy one scope...the Burris 3X-12X! The barrel I hunt deer with the most is an SSK .338JDJ#2 which of course has a Burris and I actually use 12X quite often. Two years ago on the first day of the season I had two doe bed in a blowdown for two hours and neither offered a shot. After some time one got up, turned and rebedded and I thought I still had not shot. I cranked the scope to 12X and found a hole in the brush just ahead of her shoulder on the neck. The hole was about the size of a mini basketball. On 4X or 6X I could not really tell is the hole was completely clear from almost 100 yards...but on 12X it looked like a freeway tunnel! Needless to say...she made several mighty tasty dinners.

speakin of "mighty tasty dinners".......i'm bout out of deer meat
nuthin worse than a hungry deer hunter.......i'll be one huntin son of a gun

if ya have game under 100 yards.....or moving game in timber.....the burris 2x7 really helps out. you know.....the 21' wide field of view. it's much easier/faster to pick up on em.
a good thing about the 3x12 model......it has just as much, or more field of view as any other scope maker on low x's.

7x should suffice for long shots on game, but 12x is nice!....and can come in handy in the field also.

still....on my 30-30AI, i love the 2x7's extra field of view, and i wouldn't change it.

I have two Bushnell Trophys and like them a lot, but they are not my choice for over 100 yards. If you are looking at 300 yard shots, then my first choice is the Buris 3-12X. I have one and love it.

My vote is for the 3 to 12 Burris. Especially if the shots are out to 300 yards.

The Burris is the hands down winner of the scopes you listed. I will take one every time. The 12x isn't used much but it's nice to know it's there if you need it.
The Bushnell Elite and the Elite3200 are the only two scopes that have failed me. I have them still but will get rid of them soon. Good luck in your search

Mark my vote down as a Burris 3 X 12. I figure there is a strong possibility that I will never get to use anything higher than 6 or 7 power when I'm in the woods, but it's nice to have the extra magnification for that "just in case" situation. Also remember that having the extra magnification is great for doing load development. That 12X from a good solid bench rest will help keep your point of aim pretty consistant.

Ditto on the Burris LER's in 2-7 & 3-12. Let me also add, get the Ballistic Plex--I love it!
