biggest recoil and the harshest report

What hand gun and caliber have you shot with the biggest recoil and the harshest report ? I used to have a lone eagle .444 that had a rather nasty recoil but the report was way to loud for hunting , i only shot it once with out ear protection , my ears rang for days .

.45-70 with muzzle break.

410GNR has the worse report more so than my compensated 460S&W that tig now owns and I had a BFR in 45-70 running 440gr hard cast 1600+fps that kicked like a mule.

My 308 Encore is ported and the muzzle blast will knock the cobwebs loose from the covered shooting bench i shoot at. My scandium 357 snubby is seriously painful after a cylinder of full house loads.

Encore 12" 445 Super Mag without the break comes right back in the hand nasty.

Noise, all the big bore revolvers are quite loud.

Not recoil, But report is absolutly unbearable in my buddies 25x30-30 ack, with a break and ear muffs. cant stand to shoot.

My Mag-na-ported SBH was the loudest I owned. Recoil wasn't bad though. My buddy's 7-08 Lone Eagle w/break is just too noisy!

45-70 with muzzle brake and shooting LEVERevolution ammo. I'm in the gym 4 times a week, and I still almost crack my forehead open if I don't put the death grip on it. I won't let anyone else shoot it for fear that they will get hurt.

I shot TonyV's BFR 500S&W...it was down right nasty in both dpartments. A very close second was Gary's Encore 12" tapered barrel .454 Casull.

I had kind of forgotten about the BFR Dan. It was nasty!

S&W .460 XVR running 395 gr. Corbons thru it was pretty uncomfortable. My .460 PC 10.5 firing 200gr SSTs is just plain pleasurable compared to the prior.

nightrain just a word of caution I used to shoot like that, and now am over 1/2 deaf in my right ear and 1/3rd in my left. Ringing in your ears indicates damage to your hearing you will never ever recover from.

Now I must wear hearing aids in both ears.

Not sure I can nail it down to one, but here are the 3 worst:

Encore in 300 Remington Ultra Mag, 15" no brake, 180 grain nosler

S&W 500 2.5" barrel, 620 grain cast bullets!! NASTY!!

Custom 500 linebaugh (built on stainless Ruger Bisley), Buffalo Bore 440 grain cast at 1275 fps

I "enjoyed" shooting everything except the 500 Linebaugh,,,,,,You can actually feel the factory wood grips flex and pinch under recoil and the grip screws need to be tightend after each cylinder!!

No question a BFR in 500 JRH. Dan it makes that 12" barreled 454 almost fun to shoot.

500 S&W has the most recoil I have shot.

TonyV's BFR 500S&W was just plain nasty....it recoiled so hard that it constantly moved the back sight and he could not get it zeroed. I muscled through all five rounds in the cylinder just to say I did it...dummy.

That makes two dummies!

WELL Dan we are MEN because we did. LOL

And we plan on traveling together??!! Maybe we need someone else to rethink this for us.

358JDJ with Vais brake, second worst is MY 45-70 15" ported.

The JRH is slightly shorter than the 500 Smith. I can't even imagine.

MY worst ever hands down is a Contender with a 14" 416 JDJ SSK barrel. The barrel was ported and it would still knock my hat off every time I pulled the trigger.

My supper 16” SS 45-70 barrel in the Contender would shake all the dew off the metal roof at the range. The “rain” made the Range Officer laughing historically. That barrel just hurt my hands, even with the Pac’s and the muzzle tamer. I don’t see how you fellows would want to shoot anything even remotely bigger than that.

416 Taylor, 400 gr bullet at 1950 fps. Will definately wake you up.

worst i have is my mdl 29 3" with k frame shooting full house 240gr PMC, my 12" 45-70 is positively tame comapred to the mdl 29

I have the same 29-3 and practice with 240gr win. I know exactly what you mean. I need to put in a lot of range time. It sure is fun to play Dirty Harry though! Never shot anything bigger in a handgun though.

I shoot a 44 mag ruger redhawk and does not bother me,but when a guy next to me at an indoor range shot a 500 SW not only was it extremely loud but it look like it hurt to shoot it. You think that this would turn a person off to owning one,but once I saw that gun I wanted one, you know to shoot just for kicks(no pun intended)

I enjoy shooting my .45-70 with muzzle break. I let someone else shoot it one time. Never again they hollered and almost dropped it. Of course they also loose gripped a .45 auto so bad it would jamb ever time they shot it.

The smith 460. I took a shot at a deer this year with it and my ears rang for days.I didn't have any time to put in my ear plugs. Now I wear them all day long when I hunt with my 460.

MY unported 375jdj is the worst follewed by a savage striker in 308win. the stock on the striker just doesnt feel right. i can shoot a 15in encore in 30-06 all day long doesnt bother me just something about that striker.
