encore question - 01/03/2009 2:56 AM

Howdy, I'm brand new here with a brand new T/C Encore pistol with a Pro Hunter barrel in 270 win. The pistol came from T/C with their 2.5-7 scope mounted with Weaver style base and "not so beefy looking " rings. My outfit and I are going out to the range tomorrow for barrel break-in and eventual sighting in. What's the opinion on the scope mounting set-up...should I be looking to upgrade to say a Tilly or Leupold? Thanks for any input, this looks like a great site.

WELCOME to HHM daver!!

If I'm correct the rings are the Weaver style with the "strap" that hooks on one side and has 2 screws on the other. They will hold, it's a good ring that is not expensive. Just keep an eye on the screws and make sure they don't loosen.

I like the Burris signature ZEE rings. They fit a Weaver rail and have the plastic inserts that will not leave a mark on the scopes finish.

ditto to tig.

i'm not too partial to those rings. just because i think they are a bit ugly. the weaver base is just fine. i prefer leupold rifleman vertical split rings.
the scope should be fine, and covered by lifetime warranty.

I'm with Kyode on the rifleman rings, I've used everything up to the super expensive rings and the 12.00 a pair riflemans from wal mart work excellent. I use them on my contenders and on my revolvers, my 475 Linebaugh wears 4 of them with a leupold 2x and I've broken the base screws but I've never had a ring slip.

Thanks everyone,
My concern was about the rings, not the scope itself. I will keep an eye on the rings. What are the thoughts on the 270 win. cartrige in the Encore pistol? I've had great luck with it in my Remington model 700 Mountain rifle which sports a 22" barrel. I do my own reloading and with the shorter barrel on the pistol I worked up some loads with IMR 4064 as it is a faster burning rifle powder than the IMR 4350. I will give a report after hitting the range. Thanks again,
Dave R.

Welcome to the site! Upgrade if you want to, you don't have to. TC's work fine. Hornady's 7th addition has reloading data for the Encore .270 showing 4064 with 100, 110 and 130 grain bullets.
