NcStar Pistol Scope

NcStar Pistol Scope - 07/21/2009 1:24 AM

I know, a bunch of you cringed when you read the title of this post. I may cringe with you a little later. I wouldn't buy one of these before because the eye relief was about 11 inches. Just don't want my face that close to a handgun going off. The one is a 2nd Generation 2 x 7 x 32 with up to 22 inches of eye relief. I'd like a more expensive scope but with funds like they are, well you know, and if I'm not satisfied with this one within two weeks I can return it. Hope it shows in the mail about tomorrow and I can tell everyone the rest of the story. Also it'll be going on my 10 inch 357 mag Contender barrel. More to come after a range session.

Re: NcStar Pistol Scope - 07/21/2009 3:21 AM

I did not know they had made another version with longer eye relief. I bought a 4x a couple years ago and sent it back 'cause it was too short for me, never tried to shoot with it. For 40 bucks I thought what the heck it's worth a try, but it just wasn't going to work. I know a guy who has been testing one, at the request of a dealer, on a 338-06 Encore in Alaska and it has held up well, through extreme elements. Let us know how it goes.

Should have had it by now so I emailed the seller on Ebay. Said the Post Office returned it because the shipping label was torn. He's reshipping it and hopefully I'll have it by the weekend so I can check it out at the range. I'm chomping at the bit here ready to bust out of the gate and do some fine tuning on my Contender.

You never know; it may serve you just fine.
I have an old $15 4x Tasco that's been riding on a M94 Win .30-30 for 23 years now. Hunted with every year by somebody in the family, taken numerous deer, and never had a problem. Sometimes you don't have to spend a fortune to get decent quality.
I hope you like it.

Scope came in today and I got it mounted. Optics are very clear and up to 5 power you can hold it at arms distance. At 6 and 7 power you have to bend your arm only slightly to have a full picture. We'll see how it does at the range this weekend and then I'll tell the rest of the story.

I have one in in 2 x 7
Had it about 6 months no trouble so far
What shocked me was how clear the glass is
So far i really like it for the money

Re: NcStar Pistol Scope - 07/24/2009 2:29 PM

I bought two of them when they first came out.Like stated above the glass was nice and clear.I put the 3x7 on a 6mm x 30-30 Ai barrel and a 4x on 35 rem. Both are still together with no problems. If I was going on a big hunt far away I would invest in a better scope but just for around home I'll leave them on for now.

I've used one on my Ruger MKII Target model .22 LR for several years now. I use it for jack rabbits and in IHMSA. In Ihmsa lighting is not an issue like it is in hunting where you go out a first light and stay out til dark so light gathering is not a big deal. The scope has wor't just fine for me. I'll be using it in competition tomorrow. Of course my little .22 doesn't really test a scope like your 10" 357 Mag.

Went to the range this afternoon and got on target at 25 yards then moved it out to 100 and fine tuned it. Didn't shoot a group at that range but soda cans sitting on fence posts were toast. I do believe the deer and hogs are gonna be in trouble a little later on in the year. Very pleased with the scope and am going to buy another to go on my 10 inch 22 LR barrel.

What's the model number of the x-long eye relief model you have? I checked Optics Planet and all I could find are the 10" ER models.

Re: NcStar Pistol Scope - 07/26/2009 1:33 AM

The item number is SEPB2732B. I got it off Ebay from The Hunters Mall for $49.95 and that included shipping. Good luck.

SEPB2732B

That comes up as the same ER as before. Maybe the stores don't have the new spec's yet.

Go to ebay and type NcStar pistol scope in the search window. The Hunters Mall scope will have a picture of a black and a silver scope. The description of them says it's a next generation with up to 22 inches of eye relief. Last time I checked he had about 40 of them left.

Glad it's working out for you.
Sounds like a nice scope at a bargain price.

How well do you believe this will hold up on a 308 Win Encore?

Re: NcStar Pistol Scope - 07/29/2009 10:04 PM

Think it will hold up on a 15 in. encore 45-70 with magna port Or a S & W 500 8 3/8?

I think you should get one, try it out, and let us know ;-)

I do know a guy who has one on a 338-06 Encore, unbraked, and it is holding up so far.

I'm gonna give one a go an a 444 Marlin here in a little while.

Re: NcStar Pistol Scope - 07/30/2009 9:55 AM

I have a 2x and a 2.5x NcStar that I use now and then. I have the 2x on a 14" 22lr. and the 2.5x is on a 14" 22mag. I swap them on and off of those barrels when I get new contender/encore barrels until I decide it is a barrel I want to invest time in, then I upgrade. They have held up pretty good. The 2x has seen about 150 rounds thru a 10" 30-30 as well as a few hundred thru a 10" 44 mag. The 2.5x has seen 50 rounds on a 7mm-08. Only problem was with a t/c factory 15" 500 S&W. One shot from the S&W and the scope went fuzzy. Second shot it cleared back up and the scope went back to its home on the 14" 22 mag. and has been fine ever since. Still holds a great group and is clear.

Re: NcStar Pistol Scope - 07/30/2009 8:32 PM

As far as putting it on a big gun, only time will tell and they do have a lifetime warranty. Hunters Mall on Ebay will take it back or refund your money within 14 days if you're not satisfied and then the factory warranty kicks in.. Funny, I've had cheap scopes and high dollar ones and the only one that has completely failed on me was a Leupold. Sure they made it good but it took all of one deer season to get it back.

I'm going to give one a try. I'll keep you informed on the results. Thanks for the help.
