Okay, i'll bite, what sort of problems... are you sure it's the brass. I have two contender frames and they both lost their spring tension at nearly the same time, buncha "knowledgeable 'smiths told me it was a headspace problem, in spite of the fact that they quit firing in the middle of a hundred round lot of reloads. spent quite a bit of time screwing with this and that before replacing the hammer spring voilla!!no misfires-the strange thing was altho the 30-30 and 35 rem wouldn't function, the 7tcu had no difficulties whatsoever ...

Have you annealed the necks or have you thought about it?

I too have had brass splits for my 309JDJ.But now I think I have it under control.Start off with new cases, anneal them, only use Imperial sizing wax, watch your die settings.Kenny

Very odd. I have brass that has 8 firings on it and it hasn't split. As a matter of fact, I have a less than 10% loss during initial resizing. I went so far as to make sure I have extra brass just sized and waiting for failure and no problems yet. Maybe I'm just lucky.

Odd is right I'm pushing my 338-06JDJ and can get 4 to 5 reloads after fireforming.

Check your sizing die settings. could be a situation of excess headspace- by allowing too much headspace the brass is stretched too much at firing and then splits, this could be your problem. try re-firing the cases that didn't split, necksize only- when reloading- and compare the number of bad cases per hundred of the reloads with the original mortality rate. If it is significantly better, I would bet you had too much head space.-size your cases only enough that the gun closes and locks up. To neck size only, color the neck of the case with a magic marker, or "smoke" the case neck and adjust the sizing die down the neck only far enough to grasp the bullet, I go about thre quarters of the length of the neck- the sizing die will scrape off the ink/smoke as it progresses down the die.
