00 buck out of a contender? - 02/20/2010 5:02 PM

About 2 yrs ago I bought my contender,I signed in here with a question and got on the right track.U all said collecting barrels was addictive well I now have 4 ( a44mag,223rem,22match,45/410). Went to the gun shop they had a 45/410 10 in. that had my name on it, price was very good. I know I have to takeout the choke tube for 45s, but what about 00,000,& slug.

Any lead projectile will swage through the choke without harm to the gun, but accuracy will be less than desired. Any size shot that goes out the muzzle without the choke will scatter aimlessly without pattern. Choke out for slugs, in for shot. I've never shot 00 through mine tho, so can't say for sure how they would react.

00 is .32 caliber if I recall correctly and should not be a problem with the choke, 000 is... crud forgot ... have that listed somewhere...

If your looking to fire just a single projectile you might try the Hornady M/L balls. I have used either "O" or "OO" (darn I can't remember which, so check it) in 30cal for practice and vermin control powered by a few grains of Bullseye. In bottle necks I crimp them right at the mouth after seating them buy hand and a little tap with a plastic hammer. In my straight walled 30's like the 32 H&R (my T/C has a .308 bore)or 30 Carb they work great out to 25 yards. I use the 36 cal M/L round balls in my 375 all the time. No recoil, very inexpensive, big hole and kids love em".
