what is the difference between 223 and 5.56? can 5.56 be fired in 223.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO same size rounds, 5.56 works at a higher pressure, you can fire a .223 chambered for 5.56 but you should never fire a 5.56 through any thing chambered /rated as .223

I would say if your shooting it through an Encore it should be fine if through a Contender or G2 frame I would check with T/C to make sure whether they will stand up to the extra pressure.

I shoot both in my 15" 223 encore..dont notice a difference. Im no expert but it always seems to be who you ask wether or not they will say is a real difference or not

5.56 is a bit hotter. Other than that theres not much diff. Ruger minis will shoot either safely as with most firearms but you should always check with the manufacturer. safety comes first of course and have fun
