.460 S&W

I Just ordered a 15" .460 S&W barrel for my Thompson encore. I was wondering what kind of accuracy can I expect and what is a good load for this?

I used a 240 XTP Mag and 39.5 grains of 296. It will give you 2,100 fps and sub 2 inch groups at 50 yards.

Sray, Jeff X is one of the guys to ask. I know that he has used his 460 Encore to great effect....

I have been shooting the hornady 200 gr. ftx bullets with 2400 & H-110 through my MGM barrel and they are pretty much 1 hole groups at 50 yards.

Thanks for the info. I was looking at the 200 gr. I will be using this for Ohio deer this fall.It will be topped with a red dot Aimpoint. I will try different loads to see what works best in the gun.

Do you have your heart set on lighter bullets? In a single shot the heavier bullets have had a history of stabilizing better and shooting more accurately. I am just throwing it out there. All I am saying is along with your load development for the 200gr bullets see how some 250's shoot.

I will have to buy factory rounds as I don't have any reloading equipment YET. But that way I can get the brass anyway. Winchester has a 260 grain and Federal has a 325. Honrady has the 200 grn.

Sray the 200 gr. hornady factory ammo was pretty SNAPPY but, was a lot of fun to shoot and was accurate.

I have a Custom .460 S&W 15" Encore that MGM built. I have not had good luck with the lighter weight bullets (200-240gr), I have try them all. I shoot a lot of Hornady in some of my guns , but my.460 doesn't like em. I found the .275gr. Barnes XPB is the go to bullet for my .460. I have killed some nice Hawgs, bears and big Whitetails, one Deer at over 120yd with the .275gr Barnes bullet dropped in his tracks. If your not Handloading at this time, Federal carries the .275gr Barnes XPB bullet in their Factory line-up which I have shot and does a great job as well. With reloads off the bench .275gr Barnes Im getting a 1 1/2" group @ 100 yds which is pretty awesome if I do my part. My .460 doesn't have a muzzle break, if you are any part recoil shy, in my opinion, it mite not hurt to add a break, she can be a handful with heavy loads, but that's where the .460 shines at! ***You were also talking about an aimpoint? I have never had one so I can't say, but the .460 is a Handful (Recoil)...I have a 2.5-8x32mm Leupold on mine and have shot countless rounds with her without any trouble...FWIW...Hope this helps!
