5" Ruger Super Redhawk - 10/29/2011 10:11 AM
Came across this article today:
http://www.handgunsmag.com/2010/09/24/featured_handguns_hg_rugerrh_200709/Looks like a great barrel length for hunting and general carry when in the scrub. Anyone with any experience with Rugers cut down to 5"?
While you probably wouldn't actually use the Crimson Trace for hunting, they would be a comfort at night in dangerous game areas. Again has anyone had experience with laser grips on a large bore revolver?

I have never been a huge fan of the SRH looks however in the 5" platform the design looks much more balanced. I actually like the looks of that revolver. Not that I "NEED" another handgun but if I find one for a good deal, it might be headed to get the barrel bobbed.

I would like to see them extend the shroud to the end of the barrel. Like a GP100.

My .500 Linebaugh SRH has a 5-inch barrel. It's a great length as far as I am concerned.

Perfect. Makes you wonder what could be achieved if innovation and quality returned to Ruger.

I'M IN LUST!!!!!I too like the 4.5 to 5.5 barrels they, to me, have the best balance. Whether it be in a DA or a SA they just feel best. More and more rounds are being made that will perform in that length also.

Whit, how much does that that Super weight? I'm wondering how it compares to the 5.5 Redhawks.

Thanks, guys! It weighs just under 3-lbs (I think 46-oz)-- a little less than my 6-inch Model 29. It's comfortable to carry. At the moment it is wearing an Ultradot 30 on Ruger rings that we installed prior to my Maine moose hunt a couple of months ago, but it still doesn't weigh a whole lot.
Wow....
That's just...
Wow.
I want one.

Whit.....who did the work on the gun? I have seen a couple of SRHs chopped and bobbed but never with the flutes in the barrel.....VERY NICE!

That is a right handsome weapon there Whit. We are gonna have to get Rod into DA's now, 'cause I need me one of those ;-)

Thank you much! Jack Huntington did it for me, and he did the .475 SRH that I had as well (cottonstalk now has that one). I am really pleased with it. It's very accurate.
