Questions on using a handgun scope?

I am having a problem getting a clear image using a 4x32 Handgun scope. I must move my head around alot to get a clear full view. Should I re-mount the scope?
Also, I use glasses for distance, yet find I shoot better if I take them off because I don't need to bend my head to see thru the glasses. Would a red dot eliminate this problem?
When everything falls into place I get 4" groups bench rested at 50 yards.

Sounds to me like you are "new" to using a handgun scope. They are very unforgiving with regard to eye relief (distance from your eye) and proper alignment (the gun must be directly in line between your eye & the target). I would suggest that you determine if it is the distance or the alignment issue that is giving you the most difficulty. If it is distance from your eye, it might be possible to remount it so that the eye relief is better suited to you.

I have used dot sights but do not claim to an expert on them. I never had a material issue with a dot & eye relief. The reflex types take some getting used to but the tube-types are pretty easy.

From your normal shooting position (arms extended or elbows slightly bent) look through the scope. If it is not clear, do you have to move it closer to your or further away. While all handgun scopes allow relatively small variance in eye relief (compared to rifle scopes), some brands are more sensitive than others.

In the alignment issue -- if you are not holding the gun (and scope)striaght between your eye & the target, very slight movements of the muzzle left or right will clear the scope & identify that problem for you.

Have you tried a different scope? Some scopes have longer/shorter eye relief than others. Some are just too long for my reach. A red dot will be much easier to get started on as there is no eye relief, nor parallax to worry about.

another hint thay makes target aquisition easier with a handgun scope when getting used to them is to look at your target and then raise the gun bringing the scope between you and your target.

Ive tried both scope and reddot and a reddot will clear up all those issues for you,but they or most of them dont have magnafaction so its a 3 inch dot at 100 yds,a scope with a solid rest would be better for longer shoots,

Try keeping both eyes open while aligning with the target. I do that everytime and it makes for quick aquisition. Both eyes will follow each other so if one eye is one the target the other should be and then its a matter of very small adjustments. Have you checked the paralax on the scope? And have you checked the ocular adjustment? Practice is really what it takes. Lots of practice.

Mike, try practicing on Squirrels to help you get on target faster. One thing that helped me was to point the end of my barrel at the animal and drop my head down to the scope and the deer was there every time.
