44 Mag Contender - 02/24/2013 5:37 AM

Hey got a old model contender at Puyallup show today. It has a ten inch barrel in 44 Magnum, 320 bucks. Price was right. It came with a wrench and has some kinda thingy threaded inside the barrel. What the heck is that for?

They were also doing NRA Memberships and gave me the 300 dollar Lifetime member deal. I had to ask for it though. Sure beats a thousand bucks. So now Im a Lifer. Well anxious to see how 2.5 inches more barrel will help my 44 loads. I think Ill remove the thingy first.. Haha

If I remember correctly, that's a choke for shooting shot loads, good idea to remove choke before firing anything but shot loads.

Will be more like 1" more barrel cause when you remove that choke you will effectively lose that last 1-1/2" of barrel as far as ballistics are concerned. Those Hotshot barrels often shoot bullets rather well, of course with the choke removed ;-)

The closed breech of the Contender itself will improve peformance over a revolver.

rbecker,

You MUST remove the choke before firing ANY bulletted rounds. The choke is there only to shread shot capsules.

That, and it also stops the rotation of the shot string and restricts it so the gun patterns somewhat respectively.
