Cream of Wheat in cartridges.

I have read some articles in the past of reloaders compressing cream of wheat on top of powder charges. Does anyone know of some in depth knowledge on this topic in print? In talking to some knowledgeable oldtimers that shoot reduced loads in rifles for cast bullets I found out that this reduces the empty space in the case and helps some slower burning powders fully burn. I am hoping to use this technique in straight walled revolver cases to help to fully burn powders that leave charred powder kernels in my guns. I have tried heavy crimps and magnum primers in 38 special cases with 180 grain lead RNFP. With loads of 5.5 grains Bluedot and 11 grains IMR 4227. These are not my powders of choice but lack of availability forces me to use these really slow powders.

I have sent a LOT of COW down gun barrels. But never with a projectile on top of it. I use it for fireforming wildcat cases.

I use it on top of my black powder loads in my revolvers. I load 2F black powder, cream of wheat, them the ball seated to be flush with the end of the cylinder, then a little grease.
I did try some in some 6.5 JDJ rounds with cream of wheat then them a wax seal. Didn't fire form as sell as I wanted.

I get the unburned crud in my FA 454 with H4227 even with more max loads. As I am getting what looks like proper velocity, I always assumed this was just a byproduct of the powder, even while working correctly. I also had it happen back when loading 45 Colts. I would be curious to see if you can find a way to mitigate.

Would you use a wad to separate the cereal from the powder? If you alter the case volume from that which was used to establish the data for your load, you will affect the chamber pressure accordingly.

Used cow when fire forming 22kay chuck....

Round here we use grits. JUST kidding, never done and never heard of it.

I have used the COW some and it seems to run the pressure up some to me. In my limited use of it I have never found an advantage so its not a staple of my reloading practices.

I've heard about it in black powder rounds, but never used it.
I did hear that Buck Wheat, from 'the little rascals', when he grew up, converted to Muslem. He changed his name to Kaream of Wheat. ;-)

I recently tried fireforming some 7x30 Waters from 30-30 brass. After running them through the sizer my recipe was 5gr of H110, corn meal, wax plug.
When I pulled the trigger I got a small pop and a piece of brass that looked exactly as it did when I dropped it in the chamber.
Any thoughts on what I did wrong ?

Most guys use bulseye or another very fast powder to fireform.
