340 gr. Buffalo Bore 44 Mag load and rate of twist

340 gr. Buffalo Bore 44 Mag load and rate of twist - 12/03/2014 8:44 PM

Now I understand that, or at least I would think that most buying this load are doing so for purposes of defense against big bears or perhaps just to shoot +P+ loads for the fun of it. And that ranges to said beasts or even targets would probably be measured in feet rather than yards.

With that said, I wonder what the optimal twist for that bullet is? Do any of you know which bullet this is that Buffalo Bore uses and how long it is? Do Ruger guns stabilize this bullet beyond 50 yards or so or does accuracy quickly degrade?

I've seen on the Beartooth website that they recommend running certain bullets for certain cartridges to max velocities to get them to stabilize.

To sum it up, out of Rugers (SBH, RH and SRH) with their 1-18" twist (or is it 1-20"??), at what point will this load lose its stabilization? This is merely a tech question because I realize that there are plenty of lighter/shorter, heavy slugs for the 44 that will work fine way out there and that one does not necessarily need a 340 gr. bullet for bear defense or general big game hunting.

That is why I asked if anyone knows which bullet BB uses for this ammo. Without knowing the length of the bullet, you can't fill in that blank.

I'd be surprised if this bullet from Rim Rock were not the bullet. Rim Rock supplies many of their other products to Buffalo Bore. I would drop them an email about the length. They are VERY responsive to emails. I buy a lot from them.
