Copper Plated 44 Mag. SWC

I've been looking for some 44 Mag. Copper Plated SWC bullets. And haven't found any. I started looking when I found out that Speer bullets use to make a SWC hollow point bullet that is now discontinued. Does anyone have an idea were I can find some?

No ideal.

They were 225gr half jacket SWC HP bullets...Very highly sought after,along with their 240gr SWC SP brothers..They have both been out of production for many years..Speer quit making them because there would sometimes be jacket/core separations in the barrel.. This condition arose because people would buy them and load them using ordinary reduced loads or data intended for Speers' 240gr SWC .430 swaged lead bullet.. ln fact if you look in Speer #12 &13 it will give special load data for these half jacket loads..Speer actually sold the half jacket cups for swagers/casters to make their own...
l,personally have some of these bullets l was able to purchase as New/0ld stock awhile back. THey really ARE super accurate

Berry Bullets may have what you want.

I shot thousands of those 1/2 jacket bullets in .38 an .357 and have a few hundred left. When I couldn't find them any more I called Speer and was told what sw282 wrote. I killed deer, groundhogs and various other animals and even a mountain lion with those bullets. Never a problem. The guy at Speer basically told me to throw them away. I have very little experience with the Gold Dots at this point. As good as those half jacket bullets were I find the XTP to be better.

Ranier and Berry's seem to be the most popular for plated bullets. HSM could be bought through Midway, but the HSM website only shows loaded ammo.

As to SWC design, it is easy to get the more traditional paper punching swc shape. These are not Kieth in style, and usually have a pretty round nose, and rounded shoulders. They tend to be on the lighter side for caliber, I think again for target work. You can usually find a plated FP design, which I think looks like a better hunting design. But I have only wet print tested this design, not shot anything.

If you are looking for just practice bullets, I have had great results with Ranier bullets. I have just never found a plated bullet with which I would want to hunt anything serious. None have sharp edges, and am afraid they would behave only moderately better than a fmj.

Good point. Berry has a truncated cone design on their website but no swc in 44. I would not hunt with it but for plinking it would do nicely I expect.

I'm not looking to hunt with them SWC. I have Plated 158 gr SWC for my 357 Mag. and just like the way it cuts through paper. It is also is a very accurate bullet. I just can't find them for my 44 Mag Contender.

gotcha. I suspect the lack of that particular design is because of it's origin as a target bullet shape. 38's and 45's play(ed) that role historically.

SNS casting does have a 44 swc coated lead bullet. 56 bucks for 500 might worth a looksee. I have not played with coated bullets, but they do appear to have a lot of popularity.

FA83--Don't listen to that Speer guy about throwing those half jacket Speer bullets away...Lots of people think they are some of the most accurate handgun bullets ever made..l have seen them go for almost $50 a hundred on GB... ESP the 200gr HP in 410 and the 225gr HP .430..The 220gr SP is still one of the best ''sillywett'' bullets in 41mag...l try and win every auction l see on the 44/41 cals..That big old lead nose sticking out is almost PURE soft lead..

I just came back from Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg where I purchased 500 of the .452 230 JHP. They had .44 plated SWC and truncated cone too, but I have thousands LCSWC GC already. I paid $60, no tax. $12/100 is very fair on today's market.
