That is good to know. I like the availability and variety of the factory ammo and I have lots of brass already. Perhaps it is one I will consider after tax season. Any ideas about what velocities to reasonably expect from the 7.5" barrel with various bullet weights?
My BFR initially had an 7.5" barrel. I bought the gun at a fundraiser in Magnaport Stalker configuration with a 7.5" barrel. It was not my favorite mainly because the gun looked and felt unbalanced with such a short barrel. It developed a crack in the forcing cone, so I sent it back to MRI to have the barrel replaced with the 10" version. I thought that 10" was too long, and it had a cumbersome feel to it. I liked the 8 3/8 barrel length on my S & W Model 29/629 and Taurus Raging Bull revolvers so I sent it the BFR to Magnaport to have the barrel shortened to that length. I think that is the best combination of handling and performance for the 45/70 cartridge, and I strongly recommend that you try the 7.5" barrel length before you buy one.
