Part time handgun hunter, now full time? - 07/17/2016 9:10 PM

I am recuperating from my second shoulder surgery. The left was 4 years ago. Now the right (my dominant side) is healing, and am in rehab for 7 more weeks. I am wondering, has anyone else on here had this problem? I enjoy hunting in any form, but larger rifles and shotguns may be of a lesser amount. Is hunting with 10mm auto, 44 mag, 45 colt, 454 casual easier on shoulder joints? I also have contenders and encores in 223 to 7mm08. Would these jar my shoulder much? I have shot these before but paid no attention to recoil vs shoulder. As previously stated, I am healing from surgery and just looking at future possibilities. I am hoping all will be fine within the next 6 months to a year, but just looking at options this fall. Any input would be appreciated. MK

Squirrel, rabbit, turkey, deer, and hogs. Later maybe Elk as they have been recently reestablished here in KY. MK

The only time I have noticed shoulder pain is after extended bench time with some of the big boomers.

I had surgery in late May on my right [dominate] shoulder. Eight weeks in and the shoulder still hurts can't sleep. It is getting better but I am shooting nothing heavier than a .22. Still can't lift a single six to shoulder high and shoot it,so everything is limited to bench work. I don't have any intention of shooting anything heavy than .22 for awhile. I did shoot my 12 in .45-70 left handed, ONCE!!!!!!!!!!!The shock wave going thru my right shoulder and arm were EXQUISITE to say the least , won't do that again!!!!! . Gun season isn't until Nov. so I have time, and if I have to I will just shoot left handed with something that don't kick like a mule. Good luck with your rehab.
The 7-08 with a good brake should be ok around deer season. What ever I use will have a good brake.

Well howdy neighbor! (Junebug) I am a bit north of you out of Mt Washington. My surgery was May 23. It sounds like you are in the same shape I'm in. I can raise a 45 Colt Blackhawk (4 5/8") up to eye level but not hold it there yet. Sleeping on therapy days can be tough, although I have felt improvement. My Surgeon said to not lift anything heavier than a cup of coffee for 3 months. I suppose I was expecting to heal as quickly as the last time on the left. I think another month will tell the tale, so to speak. Best of luck to you as well.

Reflex, you have given me hope. Thank you.
