model 29 load... - 08/30/2017 7:51 PM

A question for owners of Smith & Wesson`s model 29/629 in .44 Mag:
What is the heaviest hunting load you shoot in your S&W 44??? I have been using a 250 gr. Partition over 22.5 grs. of 296 in my 8 3/8" model 29. This combination has cleanly taken some good size boar......I want to try some IMR-4227 with the same bullet..

While I don't load that bullet in .44 magnums, I do run a 255gr cast RFN gas check over 23.0 grs in a 4" 629. It's a pretty stout load.

23gr. 296 and 240gr. XTP Super accurate. If I need a heavier load I go to the Redhawk.

All good loads fellas, but James is asking for '4227' loads. He has a 110/296 load.....

I`ve tried this load using a 250 gr. Partition and found the accuracy is terrific and the snap to my hand is not as sharp, however, the MV is lower then 296/110, so as long as long as range is not that far when using this bullet, I believe I found a replacement.....

I use 23 gr IMR4227 with a fed 155 primer and Nosler 240 FP with excellent results and very accurate.

You may be able to use these as a reference/starting point. All loads were shot with H-4227 and chronographed at 15' using an Oehler 35P.

How many holes did you put in that piggy James ???????
I still say you thumped him in the head first (I see the lump) and shot him after words.

One is none and two is one so they say. Nothing wrong with putting an extra one into it just in case...
Them piggies can be mean....

Sorry James, Just started loading for the 44 Mag recently, and I am not using the bullet weight or the powder you are asking about. I will probably be sticking with either 2400 and H110 and 240's. May go to the heavier Deep Curl for Elk though.
