.223 cast bullets - 11/10/2020 8:30 PM

does anyone here shoot cast bullets in a .223/5.56. i have been considering using them for plinking/targets in my ar's- mainly my pistol cause it is so fun to run the combat couse drills with. i have seen where the accuracy is not so great from most of the guys posting about them. they dont have to be barn burners for paper and steel just fairly accurate and consistant.

I would think these would be a way to make a lot of cheap ammo. Never thought of this. Wouldn't have to be stupid accurate. Maybe just from here to the front door. Just sayin.

Now ya got me thinking...

I would think if you used a good lube and kept the velocity in rimfire range it should work fine. I wouldn't do much rapid fire though as leading could be a real issue.

Powder coat and run it. Lead will plug the gas port eventually. Reports around tbe next say powder coating is the way to go if you want to run cast in an AR.

After all the work you would be better off buying the cheap shots on the Nosler sight. Velocity is no issue then.

Last batch I got was $8/ 100

At the scarcity of primers and powder now.

Plink with the 22 LR

I agree with Brenden about the gas port issue. Best bet is to gt a 22lr conversion.
Brownells sells one that replaces your current bolt with a fully enclosed blowback bolt. Literally all you do is open the gun, pull your 556 bolt & drop in this one. Usually around $200 with 2 or 3 magazines. They run stupid good & are a ton of fun.
And who knows, they may not be available soon

i have a 22 lr conversion kit. however some of the training classes that i am going to will not allow 22lr. i will check on the nosler cheap shot option
thanks
