shorter trigger pull -Encore pistol

shorter trigger pull -Encore pistol - 09/19/2010 3:02 PM

After trying to decide between a G2 and an Encore pistol, I ended up ordering one of each frame. I couldn't find either model locally to try, only older model Contenders. Well, I recieved the frames the other day... the G2 feels like it was custom made for my hands. With the Encore I can barely reach the trigger. I going to keep the encore as I think the weight will help with big recoiling rounds. Can anyone recommend a reduced reach grip for the beast?
Do Pachmayrs get your finger all the way around the trigger? What about some other wood crafted grips?

Thanks,
PS.... I love that G2.

The Pachmayrs will help... But... Personally, I would get a set of custom wood grips. There are a couple of woodworkers that will make them to your hands! Tell them what your problem is and they can lead you in the right direction.

Here are some grips...

Hi,
If you find a grip that really helps alot please let me know. I have tried the Pachy grip and it is still to big for my hands. I have settled on Contenders for my pistol needs. My son shoots an Encore but only as a rifle. I just bought my first G2, but it is not here yet. Love the triggers on the older Contenders.

Safe shooting

I know that Tony, listed above, takes you hand measurements before he makes you a grip. He custom fits them to your hand. Call him and tell him your dilemma, I bet you he could help quite a bit.

I have had shooters pick up my Encores and they could not believe how much difference a nice set of grips makes... ... ...

TCMAN,
Looks like you have a good mix of grips, which do you prefer for shooting off hand? I was going to make a heavy short barrel thumper for woods walking. Does any style stand out as shorter trigger reach? I will try contacting Tony first. Thanks!
Doug, ... I will let you know what I find.

I would say the one that fits your hand the best is the one you will like shooting off hand. I have been threw a LOT of grips. I don’t have any more factory grips! I like the Pacs for the heavy 375 H&H AI. I do think they help with the recoil, but Jim’s wood with 8mm GNR (8mm Rem Mag) do VERY well. I like Jim’s Herrett grips, but they also fit my hands very well.

Ps, Off hand shooting really shows you how much grip fitting can make a difference!

The Pacs will probably be too big for your hands(wraparound)

I keep playing with the Encore frame. By rotating my hand foreward I get a good grip, trigger finger can round the trigger. I think I will need my other hand to assist, but this might do, until I have time to upgrade grips.
When shooting unsupported, how do you 2 hand hold your Encore? Feel like posting a pic? Thanks. Also anyone shooting an Encore 10" or less? Thinking 1" barrel 8-10".

I grip the Encore with both hands on the heavy recoilers. The left hand wraps around the right and the left thumb helps support the top of the right hand behind the thumb. For me it keeps the recoil in the hand and not as nuch is taken by the wrist. It also keeps the spur of the trigger guard from hitting my knuckles.

I was hoping you would post those Tig!!!

I hold my Encore very similar, I place my off hand index finger on the trigger garde when I shoot. However, my hands are large enough to do that...

The Pachmayr Encore grip will indeed reduce the reach to the trigger. However, the girth is still a bit large, but manageable for me and my hands.
