They're pretty ;-)
A little lighter in weight, but I like as much weight in the barrel as I can get.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I was just wondering. I had the choice of both in .22 LR for the same amount. I took the fluted just because I've never had one. I do like the looks a little better.

The theory is that more surface are will cool a barrel faster. With a 22LR, it would take quite a bit of shooting to worm that bad boy up! LOL

I had the barrel of my .500 Linebaugh SRH fluted and it is merely cosmetic. Sure, it took a little weigh out of it, but that gun needs all the weight it can get!

Ernie even made one look like the level wind on my fishing reel!!
I must say that may be one of the coolest guns on the planet..
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

I know the theory that flutes make a barrel stiffer, but I don't buy it. Seems to me that taking metal away could only weaken a barrel. Just my opinion, but what do I know.;)

MN I'm with you on that. You could argue stiffer in relation to weight, as a solid barrel would have to be thinner than a fluted barrel of the same weight, but I don't believe a 1" fluted will be stiffer than a 1" full bull pistol barrel.
Rod, too.

Fluted barrels are only stiffer when compared to barrels of the same weight.
Barrels of the same diameter, non-fluted will be stiffer.
Flutes allow increased surface area, and thus slightly better cooling. They also, as mentioned, allow same weight barrels to be more rigid.

While looking up some other info I found this:
"TCA's Pro Hunter barrel delivers the highest muzzle velocity available while the precision fluting helps to strengthen the barrel, dissipate heat and balance the rifle for natural handling."

Think of it this way, all the sniper rifles currently used by our militray have unflutted barrels. Only the 50 Cal sniper rifles use flutted barrels and that is to cut weight. Trust me, after having a Barret M82 SASR hanging around your next for a few hours, you will appreciate every ounce of weight they tried to save.

That's an awesome barrel Ernie. Very cool.
