I have got my younger Brother into Handgun Hunting with in the last few weeks he is excited and now is all bout it. He has just bought a New Raging Bull in .454 Casull and is happy with the gun so far. He has been coming to my house and using my range to shoot. The question I have is, (since I dont fool with Wheel gun that much) is...What is the best base mount for this gun and a good optic for the gun he's interested in some kind of dot scope. Any help in this matter I could pass along to him would help him, and again we have got another player on our team in Handgunning!! Thanks A Bunch!!

I don't know what bases the Taurus will accept, but if he wants a red-dot type sight, he would be hard pressed to find better value than Ultradot's offerings. I have had an Ultradot 30 on a number of really heavy kickers, and have generally abused the life out of it and it has never missed a beat. At about $160.00 shipped with a lifetime warranty, what's not to like? JMHO.

For a good base, http://jackweigand.com/tngsvr.htmlAgreed on the UltraDot, you won't find a tougher one.
Rod, too.

Jeff, Taurus makes their own base that mounts thru the vented ribs. It is rock solid. I had a holosight on my 480 raging bull for over 800 rounds many were hot hand loads. The scope maintained zero, even after it was fell out of my back pack while climbing into my ladder stand. Yes it was unloaded. The pack ripped. Anyway, it never lost zero, and when my son Forrest decides to mount a scope on it, I will put it back on. Rings, you know what works. But the tarus base is definately good to go.

I have Raging Bulls in both.480 Ruger and .454 Casull. On both guns, I use the Taurus Mounts and Burris 1.5 x 4 LER Scopes with Leupold Rifleman rings. I use five rings on the scope to completely eliminate tube flex (these are long scopes). The 454 has a little over a thousand rounds through it, and the .480 has approximately 400. No problems with either setup. I had additional grooves cut in the bases to accomodate the extra rings. NOTE: When mounting the bases, it is important that you tighten the screws evenly on both sides to prevent the base from being canted, or pointed toward one side. I used just a touch of loctite blue on each screw, as the tension caused by the bars that pass through the rib will help keep the screws tight. SSK and Weigand also make bases to fit the Raging Bull series, but those require drilling and tapping. One final note, if you want to lighten the trigger pull a bit, the Wolff springs made for the Taurus Tracker series will fit the Raging Bulls. Good luck.

Yep, when I mounted my Taurus base I used a torquedriver and actually mic'd the gap between the screws. I had heard about the cant and making the scope of kilter. Jeff it is probably the best base out there for it. It was made for it specifically.

Don't overlook weaver scopes either. About $150 for a 2X. I have one mounted on a SRH .454 with no problems.

B-square also makes a base for the Raging Bull.
