Hey guys been awhile since i've posted but still read all the time. I have worked up a load for my 41 mag and have a few questions. I am shooting a 265 wlngc at 1500 fps with good accuracy. I have never hunted with cast before and was wondering about shot placement. Do you prefer shot placement to be the same as with jacketed? Also I am shooting good at 100 yds. With this load(considering i am a good enough shooter), how far could you shoot and still be confident of penetration on a deer?
Thanks in advance,
JDMAX

1,500 with a 265!! Wow! Hot! How long is your barrel?? I still like taking high shoulder shots because once you break the shoulder they aren't apt to run far. Should work like a charm.....

It is a 14 inch custom shop contender. Load is 21 gr lilgun, just under Hodgdon max. It will shoot 3" goups at 100 off a bench. Best load I have tried so far.

That load is pretty toasty! Your bullet will shoot through anything you're going to run into, & will do it as far away as you can make good hits. A deer won't even slow one down!
I too, like the high shoulder shot, used a 250 gr cast slug on a cow elk 2 years ago with the same shot, she never took a single step. My load was hardly moving compared to yours.

I was thinking "typo" myself....never thought about the T/C.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

That thing is MOVING alright. At that velocity I would stay in the shoulders.
A lung shot might not work as well with a hole punch. If the boolit upsets a little though, it will work there too.

I cannot imagine that a 265 grainer at that speed won't decimate the lungs of any animal.

Thanks for the replies. If I felt comfortable with a 150 yard shot would this still do the job at that distance? that would be my max distance anyway.

Yup

It's more important where you hit 'em, than what you hit 'em with.
