What do you guys suggest for a rust protectant for blued handguns? Ive noticed that my Ruger has a light rust film. Ive heard that they stop the blueing process prematurely that causes this (but unconfirmed) Anyway, always rains the first days of gun season here in Ohio. Thanks

When I was sent to Turkey I stored my gun safe and my folks house for 2 years. All I did was coat my guns with a light film of Break-Free. It worked just fine.

I use 3-IN-ONE
Smells just like the gun oil I get in the kits
You can get a big bottle at SAM's for like $6 I love it
On things like bolt lugs and 45 auto slides I use PENN reel grease.
If it keeps corosion of saltwater reels it can't hurt a gun
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

another vote for the Break Free, I've used it for years on my own stuff and now it's all I use in my shop. If your gun is in a cabinet or safe you can get the re usable dessican't packs that can be heated and dried out. I have a bunch I got from midway and they do a good job of keeping the moisture out. I have to take them out every couple months a cook them. I you want something convenient to take with you there is the Birchwood Casey Sheath sheets, they come individually wrapped and you can wipe your gun off before during and after being out in the rain. There are a couple other companies that have "baby wipe" type of disposable treated gun cloths.

Birchwood- Casey Sheath, sometimes named Barricade, is about the best. Take 0000 steel wool and some Hoppe's to clean off any rust.

Gunzilla http://www.gunzilla.usI use it on Glock, M&P, Blackhawk, Encore, Mod. 17, you name it. Excellent stuff. Oh, and fishing reels too!

Just about any top shelf lubricant and routine cleaning and checking. Stay on top of it and you will never get rust!

plus 1 to cfish2 & h20bug. keep em clean. wife still uses grandmothers sewing machine, singer that was made close to 100 years ago. if 3in1 is good enough for that all this time it will do on my guns, and has for close to 40 years.

I agree staying on top of things is the most important part regardless of what you use. Living on the coast I keep dessicant packs in my gun cabinets and safes but every couple months I pull everthing out and wipe it down and every so often I'll run a bore snake with Break Free on it through the bore.

Castrol ATF is my go to lubricant and rust shield. That quart should last me a life time and makes super smooth actions.

Best CLP I've ever come across is FrogLube. Developed by a former Navy Seal. Not only will it clean off rust, after 4 or so applications, the metal becomes rust resistant. Can't explain the chemistry behind it, but go to http://www.froglube.com and it will tell you all you need to know. It's not cheap, but to me it was well worth the cost.
