Just got a .35 Remington Super 14 barrel for my Contender today, found a good deal on it so I just couldnt pass it up. Should be getting a Weaver Classic 2x scope later this week to go on it also. It has the old T/C quick change scope monut and rings on it, so I believe I will give them a try. They seem to be rock solid with no movement at all that I can determine. I have no dies or components for the .35 Rem. so I will try to get a couple boxes of cartidges for a range report this weekend. Im still gonna hunt with the .375 Win. barrel this year though. If I get one with the .375 Win. I might switch over to the .35 Rem. and see if I can get one with it also.

contenderfan,
Are you aware that you may get some failure to fire rounds with factory ammo. I lost out on a nice cow elk some years ago. The short shoulder of the round can allow excessive "headspace." It does not occur with all Contender 35 Rem barrels; however, if it does for you, you will know it's an ammo issue, not a gun issue. If you reload, you can used fireformed brass ( from your barrel ) resize the neck only. Problems will disappear! Otherwise the 35 Rem is a GREAT cartridge in the Contender!

You may be better served with more power in scopes. Two power is at the low end for a gun like the .35. A 4 power or variable 2x6 or 2x8 will serve you better and let you get more from a fine caliber,.I have a .35 barrel and a .358 J.D.J. and they work well. You can always turn the power down with a variable if needed. I've got one in 35rem also. i had some problems that i thought was shoulder problems, but turned out was a weak hammer spring. it was only a problem on my 35 barrel, changed the spring and haven't had a fail to fire in four years. My favorite loads are 335 or 322 over the hornady 180 grain ssp. I think the lerevolution bullet might have potential, but my stockpile of the sst bullets precludes changing. On NY Whitetail deer it has been a hammer. I have a 4x redfield scope and find it to be more than adequate where I hunt in the woods. Good luck.

Doc, Ive had a couple .35 Rem barrels before and I think I have only had one fail to fire instance, but yeah Im aware of that situation. I will be getting some dies for it eventually though.
Junebug, I dont care for a lot of magnification in a pistol scope...thats why I jumped on the 2x Weaver when I found it. Check out my post on here about my first round of handloads for my .375 Win barrel. That group was shot at 100 yards with a Bushnell Red Dot scope with no magnification, and is pretty typical for that barrel. Im a believer in less is more when it comes to pistol scope magnification.
Hogghunter, thanks for the load info, will give them a try eventually when I get dies and components for the .35 Rem barrel.
Thanks to all for the info, thats why I like this forum, everyone seems to be friendly and helpful and willing to share info.

You must still have young eyes. I have a 2x Leupold on the .358 JDJ and it ain't quite enough for me anymore at 75 and beyond. Thats why I like variables. My .35's shoot real well with [30 gr. Re7 and a speer 180 gr FP.] or 180 rem sp. cci primers.

Im 42 and am nearsighted with astigmatism in both eys, been wearing bifocals for a couple years now. Luckily so far it has not affected my ability to see through a scope yet. Here's the new .35 Rem, barrel with the 2x Weaver Classic mounted in the old TC quick release mount, will give it a go and see what happens. The mount seems sturdy enough with no movement that I can find. [img] [/img]
