Today, I was introduced to the 445 Super Mag. Had never even heard of it till a few minutes ago. I was told that the Dan Wesson model HV8 that shoots 445SM can also shoot the 44mag, and 44 special rounds as well. Also said it was considered to be the most accurate large bore revolver the last 15 years!!!
Anyone shot, or own, one of these?? I am just about to make my 460 purchase, but MAAAAAAY have to reconsider... pending the outcome of some research on this new introduction!
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I mentioned the 445/44/44 when you posted about multiples a while back. The 445 is a stretched 44, to 1.61", and chambers the shorter rounds as well. It may be new to you but it has been around a long time. You won't find ammo on any store shelves.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

AH CRAP!!! So much for that one then!!! Yeah, I do remember you saying something about that. Guess I was concentrating on the other stuff to much at the time!
Looks like I'll stay with the 460...

with all else being equal Not sure that is possible, and even if it is we would find a way to tweak it a little. We are a twisted lot.

Yes I had an 8" one that was stolen from me. (by my own brother, so no cops) I love it. If you are a 44 nut as I was at the time. It can't be beat. Rams at 200m fell hard, on a silhouette range. Now I'm into 45's But I am thinking of having my 44 10" 'tender rechambered for it. I still have about a 100 shells for it. In the 44mag size bullets it's as good as the 454 just not when you get heavy. And I like Heavy. (well I am, so I do) Great great round. Just got lost in the 454 war.
I always thank my God for you because of his grace given you in Christ Jesus. For in him you have been enriched in every way—with all kinds of speech and with all knowledge— - 1 Corinthians 1:4-5

The .445 SuperMag and other 1.6" cartridges were conceived by the late Elgin Gates, president of the IHMSA, in the early 1980's. The .445 was chambered by both Dan Wesson and their successor companies, and Thompson/Center. Starline makes runs of the brass from time to time. Elgin did tout the .445 as being as powerful as the .454 Casull, but that was only sales hype, because the Dan Wessons cannot come anywhere as close to standing the .454 pressures, like the FA 83 will. Nor will a Contender. In an Encore, maybe ....
