Just picked up this single six. Looks brand new. Very light turn ring on the 22mag cyl, and nothing on the 22lr cyl.

Unconverted 3 screw, and I think it's an old one because the 22mag cyl is fluted.

Can't wait to shoot her and go after the squirrels and yotes!!

Didn't even know what it was when I bought it, but I am VERY pleasantly surprized!!

Congrats on your find. They are grand little guns.

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

Nice find, i'm stuck with my wifes Buckmark till i buy something worth drooling over when its not out in the woods. Thinking about scoping .357BH for yotes this winter.

Right?!?

I don't really know what to do...
It almost seems too nice to shoot, and I thought I was buying an inexpensive shooter that I planed to put a million rounds through....

I know I can do that with this one, but it just seems like it's so nice for it's age that I don't want to feel bad about banging around the woods with it all the time.

Seems like a STUPID WHINY problem, I know, but it's kind of a dilema.

What would you do??(and buying another new model six isn't an option right now)

Thanks
MN

Shoot the blazes out of it! Clean it, and take care of it. Don't "beat it around", but use it. It will last well for generations if you take care of it, clean it, and oil it properly.

Make sure to leave one round out and put the hammer down on the empty cause they go off if hammer gets bumped. You can send it in to ruger and they'll convert it free with safety bar. Does'nt affect value cause they send gun back with original parts and it'll be a six shot.

I agree!!!! I would suggest what 500WE said; unless you plan on selling it to make a profit.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Or you could sell it off cheap to one of the forum members that would take care of it for you and give it a good home, so you could get a beater gun that would be functional and useable for you...

Did you buy that?

Congrats on a sweet deal!

I know its worth more money new in the box,but like an old toy still in the box ,what a shame no kid ever got to play with it and enjoy it. Toys are made to play with. Guns are made to shoot!

Ok guys,

It's gonna become a working gun. It'll be one of the guns I never get rid of. Not planning to sell, so I might as well enjoy it.

It's like a new car, the first scratch is always the hardest.

I am thinking of doing the conversion though. Not for me, but I'm sure this will be used by my boys a lot when they get older, and I would be worried about them making a mistake on which chamber the hammer is resting on.

Thanks for all the responses. I'll have a range report soon!!

Thanks
MN

Unless you can positively verify beyond the shadow of a doubt that it has never been fired, to the satisfaction of a purist collector.........SHOOT IT!!!

Once fired, it doesn't matter how many times it has been thereafter if you take care of it. You might wanna keep looking for a beater truck gun tho ;-)

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.
