Does anybody shoot 375 Win with a 10" barrel?
Curious about efficiency, muzzle blast, etc.

Thanks

I used to have one in a 14"er. You are going to have a heluva blast and significant muzzle flip, and efficiency is out the window. Should be great fun at the range ;-)

Rod, too.

critter,

Although the 375 WCF is a great handgun round, a 10" barrel is not the best format. 12" to 14" are a better bet! Still have a pretty big fireball; but, a little more powder "burn time" helps with this one. The 375 Super Mag, is an 375 WCF cut to 1.600", used for silhouette and revolver use. More efficient in the short barrels and revolvers.

I recently read an online article on shooting 40-50 Sharps out of 10" TC and it seemed appealing, I was thinking that a 375 might funtion about the same in the 10 barrel, I know it holds a little more powder. I like shooting 375 Win in a Super 14 other than the muzzle break blast and the long barrel.
I think I'd rather deal with a fireball than a break.
My assumption is the heavy bullet of the 375 should help even out ballistics.
I was just wondering how short anyone's gone with it.

Like doc said, the 375 SMAG would be much more efficient and perform equally as well as the full case 375 Winny from the shorter tube.

From my research the 375 Win is barrel length sensitive. With a 10in barrel I think it would be ballisticly equivalent to a 375 Super Mag. Honestly, I think a 357 Max would do better in a 10in than a 375 Win, but that isn’t the question that was being asked.

If you do your data research you will quickly see that a 20in 375 Win is still burring and gaining momentum over the 14in. Unlike the 35 Rem where the 14in and 20in velocities are virtually equivalent.

If you want a big bore with a short”er” barrel I would look at a round that was originally designed to be shot out of a pistol. (a round that utilizes pistol powders as the propellant vs rounds that use rifle powders.) Maybe something like a 414 or 445 Super Mag.

I have a 14" and have good accuracy and constancy, I have used the loading for the rifle loads and the 220 grain bullet. I can say it has a very sharp recoil, but this is something I'm used to as I shoot heavy big bore anyway. I would not hesitate to use this for a 100' yd shot, it has plenty of power. The 10" I'd be a little leary of, as it would not be as efficient.I am using a fixed power scope,as well.
