Took my short barrel .500 Smith to the range today for some exercise. After the 3rd shot I lost the image on my Bushnell Holosight. I thought that I was simply not looking at it squarely. The image came back again and my 4th shot missed paper at 25 yards. A closer look revealed a rectangular piece of glass floating aroung inside the sight. Darn thing rattles pretty good when I shake it. I was wondering how long that Holosight would hold up ....now that question has been answered. I think I may go to a 4x Leupold next .

Recoil, that is no surprize to me. I just put my second 2X leupold on my .500; it's the longer bbl one.I have another 2x in line to try. JD Jones reported one time the Bushnell Trophy's are durable. I will report on how many shots it takes to break this one. I am guessing the initial inertia generated is tremendous. I have never lost a Leupold to any handgun, but I am having very serious concerns as to whether one will now stand up to my 16" 375H&H when I get it back from the smith! Gerry PS: Gary, any info on teh 416 Taylor and scope durability? Any shooting session with it that lasted amny rounds? Also, why not a 416 Rigby-it seems like it could be good in an Encore?

Well the cost of brass was a factor in the .416 taylor over the Rigby and the same is true with the NE cartridges. Very cool but very expensive brass. I have a 2x Leupold on the Taylor and so far so good but not that many rounds through it (only a hundred or so). I would be surprised if JD recommended the Trophy scope. The 3200 Elite Yes but the trophy ???

Gary, JD made the suggestion LONG before the 3200 Elite was available. As I recall, way back when, he also suggested the Simmons variable. I have one on my 6.5JDJ forever, but it is a big kicker by any means!! I have a 2X Leuie scheduled for my H&H and the Trophy goes on my .44 with a brake. No recoil there.
