I am looking at the Berger VLD hunting bullet for my new 7-30 waters. the smallest they make is a 140 gr. Any one tried these in a 7-30, or other 140gr bullets. These bullets are doing great at long range in rifle.

I shoot the 155's in my 308 Encore the accuracy is very good--best out of all the bullets I have tried--have not shot a deer yet.

I have some 140 7mm's in the reloading box to try in the 7-08

just have not got there yet

Dur uses the VLD's in several of his guns--I think he is very happy

If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Bug is correct - however, I've been shooting the VLD Hunting bullets out of longer tubes...my 6.5/284 r***e with 140's, several .270's with 140's, and hopefully will be trying my newest XP build in 6.5/284 with the 130/140's soon after the new year. Oh yeah, played with the 185's out of my 300H&H - all shot better than other bullets I tried in those rigs.

Very frangible bullets, but my experience with pushing them fast has been large exit wounds on deer sized game (and smaller) with severe internal damage. My thought is that they'll do well in the Waters - and the lack of magazine length restriction will allow you to seat 'em long...which is a plus with the VLD design.

Let us know how she prints!

I can't speak on the VLD but you definitely want something that opens fast which is why I stick with the BT's. The problem is even just by going to a 140 from a 120 your shedding close to 200fps and when your already shooting a mid velocity small caliber round you need all the velocity you can get. From what I've personally found shooting both 120 and 140's at paper the 120's seem to make the 7-30 shine.

Yes, I ran the ballistics for the 100, 120, and 140. The 120 gr was the top runner. I ran into the same thing years ago with a XP100 in 7mmBR, the 120gr BT was the best bullet.

Im shooting 105s out of a 6mm and 168s out of a 300 WSM. Hit a deer at 200yds with it. It went down like a truck hit it. Bullet did not come out I hit shoulder blade on backside.

it sounds like they act alot like a BT in that they are both frangible in a way that causes massive internal damage and most of what I'm hearing makes me think that at least in the smaller calibers they don't exit which is also consistent with what I've seen from BT's.
