I have some threads messed up on a Contender Barrel. What size are the base screw threads? If they have to be drilled out and retaped, what size should I go to?

They are 6-48, if you have to retap the next size up would be 8-40.
What chambering? There is not a lot of steel in the chamber area to work with on 'Tenders so be careful...
Rod, too.
