I know it's not too exciting but I shot a couple of squirrels this morning with my Ruger 22/45. Two shots, two squirrels...I was pretty proud as this was my first legitimate handgun hunt. It got pretty warm so didn't get any pics before skinning them. Hopefully I will get the chance to go again soon. Weather is starting to cool down and I found some decent hickory trees so it should get better.

What do you mean, It' not exciting!...

...Congrats! Squirrel hunting with a handgun is very challenging and rewarding; and as said above, great practice for big game.
Oh, did anyone mention....Tastey! I'm having it for supper tonight...

Redhaven - congrats! Squirrel hunting with a handgun is a great accomplishment!

KRal, keep it up and you're gonna need to rebarrel that thing soon!

I wouldn't be scared to say; it's had close to a million +(-) rounds down the tube. I've had it for 22 years. It's never had a hickup and still very accurate!

Good shooting guys!
Makes me wish PA allowed semiauto for small game.

The God who gave us such a beautiful land, wonderful game, and the sport of hunting is worth knowing.

KRal, I was pretty pumped and can't wait to go again. A post without pics was what i was referring to as not too exciting. Looks like I have a ways to go to catch up to you guys. Whats your favorite recipe for squirrel?

Hmmmm....I guess my favorite is fried. Boil for an hour, so it's tender; roll in flour with salt, pepper and a little cajun seasoning....MMMMM....MMMM.

I, sometimes, use a batter of egg and milk before rolling in flour; depends how messy you want to get. It's also very good with a gravy and poured over some biscuits....

Fix'n to fry up some shortly....enjoy!

Awesome. I have more fun hunting limb chickens than just about other game. After squirrels, deer are easier to hit! Even if they aren't as easy to find as squirrels. Congrats. MK

You can go one step farther. Get a can for your Ruger and do them subsonic. I have for 2 years. They don't hear you and don't spook. So much fun it ought to be illegal, but it's not here.

Doc, I've got a can waiting on me when I get home. I'm gonna put it on the new Ruger Lite 22/45. It should wreck havoc on MS skirrels!

Squirrels are tough but make for a fun day of hunting with any weapon but with a pistol is probably the funnest, here in some areas we are short on good squirrel trees so have to make due with rabbits or in the off season armadillos which was my first handgun kill.
