I finaly got all my equipment in for reloading the 45 Colt.

First load is 13 gr of Hs-6 with a CCI mag primer and the 310 gr leadhead plain base. Recoil was pleasent, I had some slight slivers of lead and accuracy seamed good. This load was not dirty at all.
6 shot group at 25 yds 2.3"
4 shot group at 25 yds 1.8"

Second load was 21.5 gr of H110 same primer and bullet. Recoil was still and leading increased. This load seemed a little dirtier the the first load.

6 shot group at 25 yds 2.2"

I realy like the hs-6 load. I think that with some work and more shooting this could a very accurate load. I feel like 1.5-1.8 would be more like it. Also I like that it shoots clean and with plesant recoil I will enjoy shooting and practice with my hunting load. As of now with the accuracy and only slight leading I see no need to have the chambers reamed out. I dont know If "I" am capable of much better accuracy.

I just started playing with HS-6 in the 45 Colt as well, and so far I like it. A little easier on the shooter and still plenty of oomph for deer. Looks like you have a winner there.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I am shooting a Leadhead 310 LBT. It seems like a long flat nose design. The price is not bad and the only problems I have seen is a few with a little missing lube that knocked off in shipping.

I have been using HS-6 for lighter 454 loads, and find it works very well for me. Pretty much the same "theory" as in the 45 Colt. I did pick up a pound of 2400 just to see, but it's going to be pretty hard to beat the HS-6. Pretty much any Hornady xtp bullet and HS-6 is easy to find great accuracy. Gonna play with both HS6 and 2400 with some lighter lead.

Bearbait-

What combination have you found for the above mentioned load in 454? Thanks.

My brother is shooting HS6 in his 45 Bisley with tremendous results.

H110 is dirty in any caliber but it works. I have shot it in ss pistols that when you get back home, you think someone "blued" your ss pistol barrel. It cleans nicely, but H110 is old school and I suppose that their are lots of new powders that work great. I have shot blue dot, 15 grains, 250 grain jacketed bullet for years. But switched to either 4227 and have had great results especially with the 300 grain Hornaday or Nosler bullets. You use more powder per load but what is money when having fun?!

I forgot to mention, all 45 Colt loads that are hot, get red Sharpie marking on the primers and wording . Packaging also gets well marked with load data. It would be easy to get loaded in that new colt or colt clone by myself or a son after my dead bones are planted.
