OK need some advice. Could a SBH in 44 magnum have a 5 shot cylinder and use the 445 Super Mag. I have a Handi in this caliber and looking for a handgun. Thanks. Also a smith for such project if fesible.

I think you would need the stretched frame black hawk that was designed for the 357 max.
I would love a 414 or 445 in a single action platform!!!

Yea, the 445 case is nearly 3/8" longer than the 44 case. If you didn't seat a bullet in it, it might fit ;-)
Rod, too.

Dog,
I have one that I built 10 or so years ago on a Ruger 357 Max frame, with a Super Blackhawk 7.5" barrel. It shoots fantastic. If I get a chance, will post a photo.

That tends to be the problem, the Ruger SRMs were made for only a few years and then discontinued. Good clean guns go for quite a sum these days.

I still find the Maximums for $800.00 or thereabouts fairly often. I paid about $700.00 for mine a couple of years ago, and it was in pristine shape.

I had a 445 blackhawk bisley conversion. Lots of blast and the return didt really impress me. I prefer the standard 44 in that caliber personally. If I remember correctly, the largest gain was with the light weight bullets. With the heavies, there just wasn't enough gain to make it worth the expense. That was a rebored 6 shot cylinder from the factory maxi cylinder. With a 5 shot, I'm sure you could do more but I just don't know if it would reach the point of diminishing returns. Definitely would be more expensive Wilber you start talking new cylinder and 5 shot lock work, action blocking etc.

I was hoping to gain a bit of distance. Here in Indiana a lot of hunters went to the 458 SOCOM and other wildcat rounds that seem on the expensive side. I think the 458 is $3.00 a round. I have been using a lever action 44 since rifle opened and its done well. I have been thinking of handgun only but need to work on shot placement with a load that will be effective. I have a couple 44 magnum and just acquire a 7 1/2" 454 SRH.
