I have not been able to find large rifle primers in months. I was able to find some CCI magnum rifle primers online. I load 30-30, 375JDJ, and 45-70 for my contender. The powders I use or IMR 3031, H4895, and IMR 4198. I do not shoot over max loads. Is there any problems with these primers in my contender? I have not been able load data for these for the magnum primers.

I'd back off a bit and work up, but they'll get the job done.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I've started using magnum primers in everything. It all started a few months ago when I finished building my 8mm-06 and looked into the Speer reloading guide to see what they suggested for their 170 Semi SP. BL-C (2) and mag primers. The standard deviation seems to be less when using the mag primers verses the standard CCI 200's. Needless to say, I like magnum primers. It simplifies everything as well. One primer for everything.

I usually reduce the starting loads a grain or two when testing a load with mag primers. The rule of thumb I have always heard was a mag primer is like adding two grains of powder (although I feel that is an exaggeration). Start low and work up.

As we say at work " Take a minute and put safety in it!" lame but true....

brian pearce wrote an article about the difference between standard and mag primers ,his conclusion showed an extra 13,000psi with mag primers in one of his loads ,so you should reduce powder charge ,basically start with a starting load and go up from there until you get the performance you want
