I have a can of IMR-4227 that says made in Canada.I know the can is at least 6 years old for sure. I am looking at Hodgons website and recommended loads for my .41 Mag and it does not list the IMR powder but it does H4227. Are they the same? I have tried to look and find out but can't seem to find any info it it is or not. I would like to start loading soon but have some concerns on whether to use the data from their website. Since this will be my first time reloading I do not want to screw up so to say. I am wanting to shoot the 170 grain Sierra sportsmaster JHC if that helps. Any insight would be appreciated.

Patrick

According to Hodgdon you can use the same data for either.

There is an article about this very subject in the Hodgdon 2010 load manual.

One more thing about loading. The load data staets case length to be 1.28 trim length. Most of mine are 1.282-1.285. I know I can trim them but does that small amount of length make that much difference?

As long as they are all the same, or very close, you will be fine. Cases of different lengths will affect the crimp, but 2 or 3 thous should pose no problem.
