I was able to finally fire a .460 yesterday and all I can say is I think I am in love. It was the 5" model and was really expecting more recoil but all that was there was a flash of light and a lot of blow back.
My nephew decided to shoot it also. I told him he needed something to plug those ears but he said "let'm ring" with a little giggle. Guess who got the last laugh on that one hahahaha, I think he really hurt himself with that one.
I do have one question for you guys about the 460. What is the recoil difference between the 5" model and the 8 3/8" model and overall feel? Don't know anyone with the longer barrel so I cant really get an idea of how everything would feel.
Hey man, you gonna shoot that thang or not?

I've got the 8 3/8" model, but I've never fired one with a 5" barrel. I imagine the recoil and muzzle blast would be about the same between the two.

Yep, that's what happens when I shoot mine around other people. One day I was shooting it with the wind blowing in my face, and I could feel the heat when I touched off one of those rounds.

I have the 8 3/8 in. bl. XVR but I have fired both. A little more muzzle flip with the shorter tube but not enough to make a big difference. The longer bl. is definitely more muzzle heavy. I really like mine but I must admit since I bought my 454 it's my go to gun.

Good deal Mike, I wish I could just buy both haha but doubt that will happen. If you could go back would you still have bought the 8 3/8 or went with the 5?

The 5" is a nice gun but the longer barrels let the 460 show its stuff. The 5" is basically a longer barreled 454. Since i killed my cape buff and lion decisively with a 454 thats ok with. You have a nice gun for sure.

I think you really need the longer barrel to take full advantage of the velocity the 460 can produce. It was designed as the XVR, xtreme velocity revolver. That being said, if you need/want a trail gun, the 5" barrel is just about the perfect length.

It would mostly be for hunting the fields where longer shots may happen. If it was all in the mountains of this area I would think more about the 5". Why can't I win the lotto so I could have both?
